WEED £RADIC~TTON PROCEDURES ( l l Manually remove all existing vegetation from manufactured slopes and d1spose of 1t off-site. (2) Fert1l1ze all plan~tng aceds WLth urea 35-0-0 commercial ferti- lizer at the cate of 0.5 pounds p~c 1,000 square feet (22 lbs. per acre). Begin watering process to activate f~rt1l1zer and add1t1ve chemicals. (3) Wdter all planting areas thoroughly and continuously for a period of three (3) consecutive weeks. The Landscape Archi- tect shall approve spec1f1c watering duration and frequency pro- gram designed to germinate all res1dual weed seeds. (41 Discontinue watering process for two (2) days and then apply a nonselective broad spectrum systemic berb1cide if perenn1al weeds appear on the slopes. The type of chemical used w1ll be determined by a licensed pest control advisor. If annual weeds appear, use straight contact herbtcide as per the pest contr-ol adv1so~•s recommendations. No ~ater shall oe applied fro~ a · min1~um for four (4) days following appl1cat1on of contact weed killer. (5) Allow suffic1ent period of time to insure that all weeds ace dead. ( 6) ( 7) (81 Clear desiccated weeds from the slope and remov~ from site. Water all planting areas thoroughly 3nd conti~uously for three (J) consecutive days to saturate ~pper layers of sail to a mini- mum depth of 6°· prior to hydroseeding operatinn. Allow planting area's soil surface to dry out for one day only prior to the hydroseeding application. Care must be taken to not allow the soil surface to be super-saturated with water prior to the hydroseeding 1nstallat1on. At the same t1me the so1l surface should not be bone dry. There should be some resi- dual mo1st.ure w1t.hin the f1cst 14" of the s011 surface. (9) 8egin the hydroseeding operation on all areas as spec1fied herein. SOIL STABILIZATION AND HYDROSEEDINC All materials shall be standard. approved. first-grade qudltty, and 1n pr1me cond1t1on when installed and accepted. Any commercial pro- cess or packaged material shall be undisturbed and delivered to the site ,n their original containers. unopened, bearing the manufactur- er·s guaranteed analysis. HYDROMULCHING APPLICATION ANO PLANTING SCHEDULE The hydromulch1ng shall be appl1ed 1n the form of a slurry ccn- s1st1ng of organic s011 amendmen~s. commercial fert1lLzer, and any other chemicals called for. When hydraulically sprayed onto the so,1, the mulch shall not for~ a blotter like material. The spray opcrat1on must be so d1rected that the slurry spray will penetrate the s011 surEace as to drill and mix the slurry c~mponents into the soil, thus ensuring m~x1mum 1mpregnat1on and coverage. The Lmpregnation and m1x1ng of the components will help 1n reta1n1ng mo1stu~e while ~tabil12ing so1l surface from eros1.on. (21 PREPARATION Of' HYDROSEEDHIC MIXTURE (al (b) (cl (dl The slurry shall be prepared at the site and its compon- ents ,shall be m1xed to supply the rates of application as per spec1ficat1ons. Slurry preparation shall beg1n by adding water to the tank when the eng1ne ts at one-half throttle. When the water level has reached the height of the agitator shaft and good rec1rculat1on has been established, the fertilizers shall be added to the mixture. The tank shall be at least 1/3 filled with water at th1s t1me. The engine throttle shall be open to full speed when the tank is l/2 filled wit~ w~ter. All organic amendments, fiuer, and chemicals shall then be added by the t1me the tank ls 2/3 to 3/4 full. At this time the seed mix shall also be added and not before this time. Spraying shall commence immediately when the tank 1s f~ll and th~ slur~y is mtxed. The machine must be approved by the Landscape Architect. · (bl The equipment shall have a built-in agitation system and operating capacity sufftcient to -agitate, suspend and homo- geneously mix d slurry conta1ninq not less than 44 l~s. of crqan1c mulching amendment plus fertilizer, chemical add1t1ves dnd solids for each 100 gallons o~ wat~r. (c) The hydromulch1ng equipment shall meet the minimum require- ments of a slurry d1str1but1on lin~ large enough to preven~ stoppage and shall be equipped w1th a set o( hydraulic spcay nozzles whLch will provtde a continuous non-fluctuat- 1ng discharge of at least 25 psi at the end of the spray nozzle. The slurry tank shall have a m1n1mwn capacity of 2,000 gallons and shall be mounted on a travelling unit either self-propelled or drawn by a separate unit. (d) Equipment used 1n the hydroseeding process will be thoroughly cleaned of all seed and other mater.ials used tn dny previous hydroseed1ng process, prior to hydroseed- ing any slopes on this pcoJect. MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES General care and maintenance shall consist of the proper watertng, fert1l1zing Jnd clean up during the germination and establishment period of growth. The maintenance per1od shall be at least three (3) cont1nuous months. ( ll GERMINATION STATE IRRIGATION Approximately 24 hours after hydromulching tne planting areas, the watering sequence should be initiated. The water should be left on long enough to ,moisten the soil thoroughly to the depth of the slurry mulch taking care not to super-saturate or ~ash away the slurry seed. Frequent, light irrigation must oc per- formed to establish seedling growth. The contractor will have to .repa1r all seed washing or er;os1on at his own expense. the slurry mulch and seed must be irrigated frequently to ma1ntain op~1mum mo1s~ure content for maximum germ1nat1on. The irriga- tion system must be observed at all times while 1n operation. The irrigation sequence must be determined by air temperature. preva1l1ng ~1nd velocity, soil texture, orientation and other .log1st1cal problems. It ts imperitive that the soil be kept moist at all times during germination period. The light, fre- .quent irrigation sequence should continue until the seedlings have g~awn beyond the germ1nat1on stage. The germination stage w1ll range from 45 ~o 60 days. · (2) ESTABL!SIIMENT STACE IRRIGATION ( 3 J (◄) The irrigation sequence (frequency) shall be gradually ~educed while the durat1on of each watering cycle shall be gradually increased. A specif1~ watering program shall be determined by the Landscape Arch1tect and/or h1s consultant, but should approx- imate watering once a day for 60 to 90 days. HAR.DENING orr STACE IRRIGATION At the end of the 9<l-day inaintenance pe,·iod, as determ111ed by the Landscape Architect, the watering frequency shall be slowly reduced to approximately once every three days depending upon the season, while 1ncreas1ng the duration of the ~ater1ng suf- f1=iently to allow for max1mum water penetration for the expand- ing root system, and at the same time taking care not to cause erosion. The contractor shall be responsible for adjusting water1ng frequency and duration ta promote opt1mum growing con-dit1ons. FERTILIZATION The contractor shall fer~1lize all planted and hydroseeded areas at 30 day intervals. 'Each fertilizer application shall consist of !16-6-8) commerc1al fertilizer, or approved equal. applied at the rate of S00 lbs. per acre and ferrous sulphate applied at the rate of 220 lbs. oer ,1cre.
