Subject: Senior Commission Work Plan for 2021-22
Recommended Action
Review current Senior Commission 2020-21 work plan, edit as needed, and adopt the work plan
for fiscal year 2021-22 and recommend approval by City Council.
Discussion
In 2018, the City Council revised the CMC to create uniform policies and procedures related to
boards and commissions. CMC Section 2.15.020 (C) requires that each board or commission
provide to the City Council for its approval an annual work plan of activities to be undertaken.
The work plan includes the commission’s mission statement, its composition and its annual
goals and tasks. Some of the goals and tasks within the work plan are multi-year efforts that
will carry over into future years. The purpose of the work plan is to encourage increased
dialogue between the commission and the City Council. The intent is to ensure that each
commission is working in line with the priorities of the City Council.
Executive Summary
On Jan. 14, 2020, the City Council adopted resolution No. 2020-010, approving the Senior
Commission Work Plan for fiscal year 2019-20. Since that date, four of the nine regularly
scheduled Senior Commission meetings were held. The other regularly scheduled meetings
were canceled due to non-actionable agenda items and impacts from the COVID-19 pandemic.
At the regularly scheduled meeting of Nov. 5, 2020, the Senior Commission reviewed the
existing annual work plan and discussed the opportunity for making changes to the content.
As a result of that review and discussion, the commission decided against making changes to
the work plan’s mission statement and composition. The commission did decide to make a
change to one of the goal’s tasks, by adding a distinction of two age ranges for the marketing of
services to seniors. On Nov. 5, 2020, the Senior Commission approved its work plan for fiscal
year 2020-21 and recommended approval by the City Council.
This will be the second review of the work plan to prepare for approval by the City Council for
2021-22.
