PRODUCTS,
A. Decomposed Gran.ite Material, Clean. hard. durable particles or fragments of 1/4" minus select crushed granite, river ~ock, or basalt. Material
fines shall be evenly mixed throughout the aggregate. Y'lhen produced from gravel. fifty percent (50%) by weight of the material retained on a No. 4
sieve shall have (1) fractured surface. :
I
The portion retained on the No. 4 sieve shall have a maximum percentage of wear of 50 at 500 revolutions as determined by AASHTO T'1<:',-ii. The
portion passing a No. 4 sieve shall have (1) fractured surface.
B. stabilizer Binder, A non-toxic. colorless. orderless. non-staining, concentrated organic powder that binds decomposed granite or crushed S/B"or
1/4" minus aggregate together, created a natural-appearing, firm surface.
Material, stabilizer by, stabilizer Solutions. inc sos south 28th SI. Phoenix Az 85034, (800) 336-2468, or approved equal.
Application Rate: Stabilizer shall be applied per Manufacturer's written recommendations. Minimum rate of 13lbs /ton.
C. Soil Sterilant: Spray-applied selective pre-emergence herbicide: "Chipco Tonstar G" Rhone-Poulenc, Inc 9201 ( 297-0100, 'Treflan 5G", Dow Elanqo, "Devrinal" Stauffer Chemical
Co., (415) 231-1000, or approved equal
I
EXECUTION: I A. Blending Stabilizer-Binder 12-15 lbs of Stabilizer per ton of decomposed granite of crushed 3/8" of 1/4" minus aggregated screenings. It is critical that Stabilizer be thoroughly and
uniformly mixed throughout decomposed granite or crushed aggregate screenings. Blending shall be performed at the batch plant that will supply both the aggregate and stabilizer.
B. Placement of Decomposed Granite Screenings of crushed 3/8" or 1/4" niinus aggregate screenings: Place aggregate in lifts and depths shown on standard drawings. Install per
Stabilizer Solutions recommendations. Place aggregate screenings to 85% relaive compaction with a double drum roller (2-4 ton) or single drum roller (1000 labs) or vibratory plat
tamp. Do not begin compaction for 6 hours after placement ahd moisture penetration. However, compaction must be completed within 48 hours of placement and moisture
penetration. . !
I
C. Repairs and Protections: Remove and replace stabilizer decomposed granite crushed 3/8" or 1/4" minus aggregate paving that is damaged, d6feCtive or does not meet
requirements of this section. Repairs can be made by the following steps. !
1. Rota till damaged area to the depth of stabilized aggregate and square up side walls.
2. If area is dry, moisten damaged portion lightly.
3. Pre-blend the dry required amount of stabilizer power with the proper amou'nt of aggregate in a concrete mixer. (12 lbs per ton)
4. Compact with a vibrating plate compactor or 1000 lbs drum roller. Keep traffic off areas for 12-48 hours after repair has been colTlpleted.
D. Maintenance/ Repairs: During the firs year a minor amount of loose aggregate will appear on the surface (1" to 1/4") if this material exceed a 1/4" ~epth redistribute the material
over the entire surface. Remove debris, such as grass clippings, leave or other materials by mechanically blowing or had raking the surface as need~d. Fill any areas with
supplemental stabilized dg. Water thoroughly to the depth of 1". Compact with a power roller of no less than 1 OOOlb.
For ruts greater than 1/4" in depth, s~arify or rotor till area and supplement with additional stabilizer decomposed granite materials to bring surface to Original grade. Water thoroughly
to a depth of 1". Compact with power roller of not less than 1000Ibs. If cracking occurs, simply sWeep fines into the cracks, water thoroughly and ha~d tamp with an 8"-1 O" hand tamp
plate.
