PLANS
1. Please make all corrections, as requested in the correction list. Submit FOUR new
complete sets of plans for commercial/industrial projects (THREE sets of plans for
residential projects). For expeditious processing, corrected sets can be submitted
in one of two ways:
1. Deliver all corrected sets of plans and calculations/reports directly to the City of
Carlsbad Building Department, 1635 Faraday Ave., Carlsbad, CA 92008, (760)
602-2700. The City will route the plans to EsGil and the Carlsbad Planning,
Engineering and Fire Departments.
2. Bring TWO corrected set of plans and calculations/reports to EsGil, 9320
Chesapeake Drive, Suite 208, San Diego, CA 92123, (858) 560-1468. Deliver all
remaining sets of plans and calculations/reports directly to the City of Carlsbad
Building Department for routing to their Planning, Engineering and Fire
Departments.
NOTE: Plans that are submitted directly to EsGil only will not be reviewed by the
City Planning, Engineering and Fire Departments until review by EsGil is complete.
2. A reminder that due to Covid-19, the City will not permit counter corrections.
Please make sure all the items are satisfied; otherwise, another round of
corrections will be necessary.
3. On the cover sheet of the plans, specify any items that will have a deferred
submittal (trusses, fire sprinklers/alarms, etc.). Additionally. provide the following
note on the plans: "Submittal documents for deferred submittal items shall be
submitted to the registered design professional in responsible charge, who shall
review them and forward them to the building official with a notation indicating
that the deferred submittal documents have been reviewed and that they have
been found to be in general conformance with the design of the building. The
deferred submittal items shall NOT be installed until their design and submittal
documents have been approved by the building official."

4. If Spiral Staircase is not a deferred submittal then submit complete detailed
construction drawings and structural calcs and both drawings and calcs must be
stamped by California Civil Engineer.
EXITS, STAIRWAYS, AND RAILINGS
5. Provide spiral stairway details, per Section R311.7.10.1:
a) Minimum run is 6-¾ inches measured at the walk line (which is not greater
than 24½"). See the figure below.

7. Provide a detail and cut on plan for new header beams being installed in walls.
Are they using trimmers and king studs? Posts with cripple walls above? Show
complete load transfer for out of plane wind forces as well as gravity forces.
8. Update sheet S-2.1 to show a strap across the new deck beam 5-1/4x11-7/8
attaching back to the house corner for load transfer. Typical ST-22 should be
plenty but final size up to EOR.
9. On sheet S-2.1 remove the "CAN'T" reference from the two beams for the new
deck as these beams are not cantilever but simple supported beams.
10. For the new long span 5-1/4"x9-1/2" and 3-1/2"x14" Headers submit a unity calc
showing the out of plane wind load and the axial load is being accounted for and
meeting stress and deflection criteria. Provide detail for the connection of these
new long span headers showing transfer of load ... A35 clips to king studs and
clipping studs to top and bottom plates?
11. In detail 2/S-3.0 show the required edge distance of 1" from both sides of the
beam to the ¼" SDS screws anchoring the steel plate of the glass guardrail.
Loaded edges require 4D (4*.25=1").
