CULTURAL ARTS OVERVIEW: Cultural Arts Manager Richard Schultz presented an overview of the Cultural Arts Department that included: Arts & Culture master plan, arts education, William D. Cannon Gallery, performing arts, and public art. 4. FY 202-23 BUDGET POLICIES AND TIMELINE: Senior Management Analyst Fiona Everett provided the board with information on the FY 2022-23 budget policies and timelines. 5. SEMI-ANNUAL LIBRARY DONATION REPORT: Management Analyst Debbie Jo McCool updated the board on donations received for the period of July to December 2021. DIRECTOR'S REPORT: Director Smithson updated the board on a variety of topics: introduction of newly appointed Principal Librarian for Partnerships & Community Outreach Laura Mendez, Principal Librarian for Digital Initiative & Special Projects Andrea Hilliard and Provisional Senior Librarian Bill Sannwald; the Library Board of Trustees FY 2021-22 Work Plan was approved by City Council; close to announcing book selection for Carlsbad Reads Together; midyear budget requests; new phone system launch in February; automated materials handling upgrade in February; and the computer labs at the Senior Center and Pine Avenue Community Center teen room will begin using the library's computer management software in February. FOUNDATION REPORT: Representative Schatt shared with the board that Carlsbad Library & Arts Foundation did not meet due to a lack of quorum. FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY REPORT: Library & Cultural Arts Director Suzanne Smithson reported that the Friend's bookstores are currently closed until Feb. 7 and donations have been suspended until March 1. NORTH SAN DIEGO COUNTY GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY REPORT: Board Liaison Mary Millet reported on a variety of topics: new President Bill Peters was introduced at the Jan. 11 board meeting; DNA Interest Group (DIG} monthly meeting with guest speaker Cece Moore from the PBS series Finding my Roots; and offering additional courses in preparation for Salt Lake City genealogical class LIBRARY BOARD COMMENTS/ANNOUNCEMENTS: Trustees thanked. staff for all their efforts in supporting the community, and how impressed they were with the presentation on Cultural Arts.
