3. FY 2022-23 BUDGET CONCURRENCE MEMO:
Senior Management Analyst Fiona Everett presented to the board a summary of the FY
2022-23 budget.
ACTION: Motion by Trustee Sheffler, seconded by Trustee Larson, to approve a memo to
the City Council in support of the Library budget for fiscal year 2022-23. Motion carried,

4. CARLSBAD READS TOGETHER FINAL REPORT 2022:
Lead Librarian Darin Williamson presented to the board the Carlsbad Reads Together 2022
final report including programs, outreach and promotion, lessons learned and survey
results.
5. SUMMER READING ADVENTURE PREVIEW:
Senior Librarians Allyson Goodwin and Bill Sannwald presented to the board a preview of
the Summer Reading Adventure, "Read Beyond the Beaten Path".
DIRECTOR'S REPORT:
Director Smithson updated the board on a variety of topics: part-time staff celebration
honoring 79 staff members for a total of 890 years of service; TGIF Concerts in the Park begins
June 24; COVID-19 mask update for the Carlsbad City Library; and the fire alarm system update
is nearly complete.
FOUNDATION REPORT:
Representative Schatt was not in attendance. Director Smithson shared with the board that City
Council accepted a donation from the Carlsbad Library & Arts Foundation for $188,000 on May
24.
FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY REPORT:
Library & Cultural Arts Director Suzanne Smithson reported The Friends of the Carlsbad Library
annual meeting is re-scheduled for June 9, 2022; Friends of the Library President Rob bye Adams
is the new manager of the bookstore at the Georgina Cole Library, and the Friends are looking
for volunteers including a new treasurer.
GROWTH MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE REPORT:
Representatives Larson and Sheffler updated the board on the purpose, goals, and challenges
of the committee.
NORTH SAN DIEGO COUNTY GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY REPORT:
Board Liaison Mary Millet reported on a variety of topics: the society is grateful for the library
offering "Findmypast" to patrons; 2022 spring seminar entitled "Black Sheep: the Criminals, the
Rebels and the Non-Conformists in our Families" was held via webinar on April 30 with 99 in
May 25, 2022 Library Board ofTrustees Regular Meeting Page 3
attendance; new President Carol Baird will serve for the remainder of 2022; and a decision
regarding continuing hybrid meetings will be decided at the June 7, 2022 board meeting.
LIBRARY BOARD COMMENTS/ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Trustee Larson announced his last meeting will be in June; and Trustee Sheffler is pleased with
the Spanish language options available for the reading programs.
