FINAL AS GRADED COMPACTION REPORT FOR SINGLE FAMILY RESIDENCE AT
4575 PARK DRIYE. CARI SBAD CAI IECRNIA GRADING PERMIT NO GR 2019-0030
Pursuant to your authorization, and in accordance with the requirements for the City of
Carlsbad, this compaction report for the remedial grading and wall backfill has been
prepared for the above referenced site. We have completed engineering observation and
testing services in conjunction with the removal and re-compact grading operations which
consisted of a 2-foot deep removal and re-compact of the existing soils within the garage
area and 3-foot deep removal and recompact at the upper pad as well as wall backfill
testing. This report summarizes the results of our tests and observations of compacted
fill which was placed periodically from December 20, 2019 through January 31, 2020.
Actual dates are shown on the enclosed compaction test result sheet.
Laboratory compaction tests were performed to determine the maximum dry density and
optimum moisture for each soil type in accordance with ASTM D-1557 which was brought
forward from our Update Compaction Report dated March 25, 2019.
Fill was placed in lifts of appropriate thickness based on type of construction equipment
utilized for compaction. Field density tests were performed in accordance with ASTM D-
6938 nuclear gauge as the fill was placed. The moisture content for each density sample
was also determined. The approximate locations of the field density tests are shown on the
enclosed compaction test result sheet. In our opinion the compacted fills are suitable for
the support of the intended structure and meet the recommendations of our referenced
report.
The locations of the tests were placed to provide the best possible coverage. Areas of low
compaction, as indicated by the field density tests, were brought to the attention of the
contractor. These areas were reworked by the contractor and retested. The test locations
are plotted on the included Plate 1. Field density test results are summarized on the
compaction test result table. Depths and locations of field density tests were determined
by hand level and pacing/tape measure relative to field staking done by others, and top
of retaining wall.
