Dear Mr. Beggs:
Per your request, we are responding herein to Section VI "Geology and Soils" of the
Environmental Impact Assessment Form required for the subject project.
VI. Geology and Soils
Please note there is no engineering geologist required for this project. Therefore, the following
questions can only be answered from a soils engineering standpoint of view.
a) i. The site is located approximately 6 km from the Rose Canyon fault (type B).
The estimated maximum ground acceleration at the site should be evaluated
by a geologist.
Liquefaction occurring at the site is unlikely due to the following:
1.) Relatively dense sandstone formation underlying
the site and the absence of near surfaàe groundwater.

iv. Landslides: The site is underlain by the coastal terrace deposit
which is unlikely to have landslide characteristics. A predominately
flat lot will be developed with no major slopes.
Erosion should not impact the site as long as stormwater management devices
are incorporated into the subject project.
From a soils engineering standpoint of view, the coastal terrace formation
underlying the site produces above average supporting characteristics.
On-site soils are classified as being very low in expansion potential (expansion
index of less than 5) and should not impact the site.
Sewer systems will be available. However the underlying formation at the site
will adequately support septic tanks and/or waste water disposal systems.
If you should have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us. This opportunity to be of
service is sincerely appreciated.
Respectfully submitted,
North County

V. CULTURAL RESOURCES - Would the project:
Cause a substantial adverse change in the
significance of a historical resource as defined in
§ 15064.5?
Cause a substantial adverse change in the signifi-
cance of an archeological resource pursuant to
§15064.5?
Directly or indirectly destroy a unique paleontologi-
cal resource or site or unique geologic feature?
Disturb any human remains, including those interred
outside of formal cemeteries?
VII. GEOLOGY AND SOILS - Would the project:
a) Expose people or structures to potential substantial
adverse effects, including the risk of loss, injury or
death involving:
Rupture of a known earthquake fault, as
delineated on the most recent Alquist-Priolo
Earthquake Fault Zoning Map issued by the
State Geologist for the area or based on other
substantial evidence of a known fault? Refer to
Division of Mines and Geology Special
Publication 42.
Strong seismic ground shaking?
Seismic-related ground failure, including
liquefaction?
Landslides?
b) Result in substantial soil erosion or the loss of
topsoil?
c) Be located on a geologic unit or soil that is unstable,
or that would become unstable as a result of the
project, and potentially result in on- or off-site
landslide, lateral spreading, subsidence, liquefaction,
or collapse?
d) Be located on expansive soils, as defined in Table 18
- 1-B of the Uniform Building Code (1997), creating
substantial risks to life or property?

e) Have soils incapable of adequately supporting the
use of septic tanks or alternative wastewater disposal
systems where sewers are not available for the
disposal of wastewater?
VII. HAZARDS AND HAZARDOUS MATERIALS -
Would the project:
Create a significant hazard to the public or the
environment through the routine transport, use, or
disposal of hazardous materials?
Create a significant hazard to the public or
environment through reasonably foreseeable upset
and accident conditions involving the release of
hazardous materials into the environment?
Emit hazardous emissions or handle hazardous or
acutely hazardous materials, substances, or waste
within one-quarter mile of an existing or proposed
school?
Be located on a site which is included on a list of
hazardous materials sites compiled pursuant to
Government Code Section 65962.5 and, as a result,
would it create a significant hazard to the public or
environment?
For a project within an airport land use plan, or
where such a plan has not been adopted, within two
miles of a public airport or public use airport, would
the project result in a safety hazard for people
residing or working in the project area?
For a project within the vicinity of a private airstrip,
would the project result in a safety hazard for people
residing or working in the project area?
Impair implementation of or physically interfere with
an adopted emergency response plan or emergency
evacuation plan?
Expose people or structures to a significnt risk of
loss, injury or death involving wildiand fires,
including where wildiands are adjacent to urbanized
areas or where residences are intermixed with
wildlands?
VIII. HYDROLOGY AND WATER QUALITY - Would the
project:
a) Violate any water quality standards or waste
discharge requirements?
