1. DESCRIPTION .
Viking Micromatic® and MicromaticHP® Standard Response Upright and
Conventional (Old Style) Sprinklers are small, thermosensitive, glass-bulb spray
sprinklers available in several different finishes, temperature ratings, and K-
Factors to meet design requirements. The special Polyester and Teflon® coat-
ings can be used in decorative applications where colors are desired. In addi-
tion, these coatings have been investigated for installation in corrosive atmos-
pheres and are cULus listed as corrosion resistant as indicated in the Approval
Chart. (Note: FM Global has no approval classification for Teflon® and Polyester coat-
ings as corrosion resistant.)
Viking standard response sprinklers may be ordered and/or used as open sprinklers
(glass bulb and pip cap assembly removed) on deluge systems. Refer to Ordering
Instructions on page hr.

Ordering Information: (Also refer to the current Viking price list.)
Order Micromatic® and MicromaticHP® Standard Response Upright and Conventional Sprinklers by first adding the appropriate
suffix for the sprinkler finish and then the appropriate suffix for the temperature rating to the sprinkler base part number.
Finish Suffix: Brass = A, Chrome-Enloy® = F, White Polyester = M-/W, Black Polyester = M-/B, and Black Teflon® = N, Wax Coated = C, Wax Over Polyester = V-NV
Temperature Suffix (°F/°C): 135°/68° =A, 155°/68° = B, 175°/79° = D, 200°/93° = E, 212°/100" = M, 286°/141° = G, 360°/182° = H, 500°/260° = L, OPEN = Z (Teflon® only).
For example, sprinkler VK100 with a 1/2" thread, Brass finish and a 155 °F/68 "C temperature rating = Part No. 101 38A
Available Finishes And Temperature Ratings:
Refer to Table I
Accessories: (Also refer to the "Sprinkler Accessories" section of the Viking data book.)
Sprinkler Wrenches:
Standard Wrench: Part No. 10896W/B (available since 2000)
Wrench for wax-coated sprinklers: Part No. 13577W/B** (available since 2006)

Sprinkler Cabinets:
Six-head capacity: Part No. 01724A (available since 1971)
Twelve-head capacity: Part No. 01725A (available since 1971)
INSTALLATION
Refer to appropriate NFPA Installation Standards.
OPERATION
During fire conditions, the heat-sensitive liquid in the glass bulb expands, causing the glass to shatter, releasing the pip cap and
sealing spring assembly. Water flowing through the sprinkler orifice strikes the sprinkler deflector, forming a uniform spray pattern
to extinguish or control the fire.
INSPECTIONS, TESTS AND MAINTENANCE
Refer to NFPA 25 for Inspection, Testing and Maintenance requirements.
AVAILABILITY
The Viking Micromatic® and MicromaticHP® Standard Response Upright and Conventional Sprinklers are available through a
network of domestic and international distributors. See The Viking Corporation web site for the closest distributor or contact The

It is available in different orifice sizes allowing the designer
to optimize system performance, thereby achieving a most
efficient installation.
The Concealer® can eliminate the need for precise cutting
of drop nipples. The cover plate assembly can be adjusted
without tools so it mates accurately with the ceiling. The fire
protection system need not be shut down to adjust or remove
the cover plate assembly.

Installation
Do not install The Concealer5 in ceilings which have posi-
tive pressure in the space in the space above.
After a 2/8 inch diameter hole is cut in the ceiling, the sprin-
kler is to be installed with the Model G4 Wrench. The wrench
has drive tangs which insert into cup slots. When installing
a sprinkler the wrench is first positioned into the sprinkler/
cup assembly until the wrench tangs engage drive slots in
the top of the cup (there are two sets of mating drive slots in
the cup). The sprinkler is then tightened into the pipe fitting.
When inserting or removing the wrench from the sprinkler/
cup assembly care should be taken to prevent damage to
the sprinkler. DO NOT WRENCH ON ANY OTHER PART OF
THE SPRINKLER/CUP ASSEMBLY.
The adjustable inlet versions are similar to the standard
Model G4 except that an addition 1" (25mm) of adjustment is
provided by means of a telescoping inlet section that threads
in or out of a stationary coupling reducer (either 1 male or 1
female) as shown in Fig. 201 Fig. 3. These sprinklers must be
installed before the ceiling is in place, by wrenching on only

the coupling reducer hex flats. After the ceiling has been in-
stalled with holes for the sprinkler, each telescoping inlet sec-
tion is to be adjusted with the G4 Wrench. Install the cover
plate assembly by hand turning it clockwise until it is tight against the ceiling.
Maintenance
The Model G4 Concealer5 should be inspected quarterly
and the sprinkler system maintained in accordance with
NFPA 25. Do not clean sprinklers with soap and water, am-
monia or any other cleaning fluids. Remove any sprinkler that
has been painted (other than factory applied) or damaged in
any way. A stock of spare sprinklers should be maintained
to allow quick replacement of damaged or operated sprin-
klers. Prior to installation, sprinklers should be maintained in
the original cartons and packaging to minimize the potential
for damage to sprinklers that would cause improper opera-
tion or non-operation.

1. DESCRIPTION
Viking Micromatic and MicromaticHP® Standard Response Upright and
Conventional (Old Style) Sprinklers are small, thermosensitive, glass-bulb spray
sprinklers, available in several different finishes, temperature ratings, and K-
Factors to meet design requirements. The special Polyester and Teflon5 coat-
ings can be used in decorative applications where colors are desired. In addi-
tion, these coatings have been investigated for installation in corrosive atmos-
pheres and are cULus listed as corrosion resistant as indicated in the Approval
Chart. (Note: FM Global has no approval classification for Teflon5 and Polyester coat-
ings as corrosion resistant.)
Viking standard response sprinklers may be ordered and/or used as open sprinklers
(glass bulb and pip cap assembly removed) on deluge systems. Refer to Ordering
Instructions on page hr.

Dear Daryl:
This declaration shall confirm that no High-Pile Storage Occupancy permit is required for the
subject space.
Their inventory of athletic shoes, a class IV commodity as defined by 2007 California Fire Code
(CFC) Chapter 23, Figure 2303.7.4 Mix Commodities (see attached Exhibit "A"). They will be stored
on shelves to 12'-0" high, in an area of approximately 1,271 sq.ft. Per 2007 CFC, Table 2306.2 for
Class l-IV, non-public accessible areas, Option No. I, if automatic fire sprinkler protection is provided
(existing), then Smoke Detection, Building Access, Smoke and Heat removal and Draft Curtains are
not required.
Shelf storage is limited to maximum 100'x 100' dimension, with 400,000 cubic feet per pile.
The existing Mall is protected by an Ordinary Hazard fire sprinkler system. The protection provided
by this design from NFPA 13 2002 edition, Table 12.10.1.1 Miscellaneous Storage 12' or less in
height, (Table 13.2.1 from 2010 edition) allows for greater than 10'-0" to less than or equal to 12' of
Class IV commodity, palletized, bin box, and shelf storage (no racks) per Figure 12.1.10, Curve 3.
The 2010 edition limits the maximum ceiling height for this application to 32'-0", but the actual ceiling
height is only 15'-O"±.
Portable fire extinguishers shall be provided and the area will be designated as NO SMOKING.
We respectfully seek your concurrence with the above interpretation of California Fire Code, Chapter 23.
