Fire Department Notes
When a fire alarm system is provided in the building, it shall be interconnected to
the fire extinguishing system per 1998 NFPA hA. Section 3-2.1.5.
All gas fueled, electrically powered and heat-producing equipment located under
the hood shall shutdown when the extinguishing system activates. 1998 NFPA
17A Section 2-4.3.1.
When its fire-extinguishing system discharges, all electrical outlets shall be turned
off.
Piping shall be rigidly supported to prevent movement.
All discharge nozzles shall be provided with caps, covers, or other suitable
protective devices. 1998 NFPA hA. Section 2-3.1.4.
Installation shall comply with NFPA 96 & 17A.
Hood and duct construction and installation shall be in accordance with the 2001
Uniform Mechanical Code and nationally recognized standard. These assemblies
are subject to approval and inspection by the local Building Official and are not
part of the Fire Authorities review process except as it relates to .the installation of
the hood extinguishing system. 1998 NFPA 17A Section 1-2.
All movable cooking equipment shall be provided with a means to ensure that it is
correctly positioned in relation to the appliance discharge nozzle during cooking
operations. (1998 NFPA hA Section 3-6.3.)
Chemical fire extinguishing systems shall be tested prior to placing in service.
Test shall be witnessed by OCFA Inspector. 1998 NFPA hA Section 1-2.
When its fire-extinguishing system discharges, make-up air supplied internally to
a hood shall be shut off. 1998 NFPA 96 Section 5-3.
A hood exhaust fan(s) shall continue to operate after the extinguishing system has
been activated, unless fan shutdown is required by a listed component of the
ventilation system or by the design of the extinguishing system. 1998 NFPA 96
Section 52.3.
