A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARLSBAD,
CALIFORNIA, SETTING THE INITIAL TERMS OF THE MEMBERS OF THE
COMMUNITY-POLICE ENGAGEMENT COMMISSION
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Carlsbad, California has established a Community
Police Engagement Commission; and
WHEREAS, members of the Community-Police Engagement Commission will be appointed by
the Mayor and each of the City Council Member to serve four-year terms; and
WHEREAS, the City Council has determined that the terms of the commission members should
be staggered and that the term of the commission member should follow the term of the appointing
official; and
WHEREAS, in order to stagger the terms of the commission members, the length of some of the
initial terms will need to be adjusted; and
WHEREAS, as the term of each commission member expires, the most recently elected district
councilperson or mayor will nominate a new member; and
WHEREAS, the term of the newly nominated member will be set to begin in March and expire
at the time the nominating Mayor or City Council Member's term expires; and
WHEREAS, each subsequent term for the commission member will be set to coincide with the
nominating Mayor or City Council Member's term.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Carlsbad, California, as
follows:
1.That the above recitations are true and correct.
2.That the initial term of the commission member appointed by the Mayor will be for a
term beginning in March 2023 and ending December 2026. The commission member
appointed by the Mayor will be eligible for one additional four-year term.
3.That the initial term of the commission member appointed by the City Council Member
for District 1 will be for a term beginning in March 2023 and ending December 2026. The
commission member appointed by the Council Member for District 1 will be eligible for
one additional four-year term.
4.That the initial term of the commission member appointed by the City Council Member
for District 3 will be for a term beginning in March 2023 and ending December 2026. The
commission member appointed by the Council Member for District 3 will be eligible for
one additional four-year term.
5.That the initial term of the commission member appointed by the City Council Member
for District 2 will be for a term beginning in March 2023 and ending in December 2024.
The commission member appointed by the Council Member for District 2 will be eligible
for two additional four-year terms.
6.That the initial term of the commission member appointed by the City Council Member
for District 4 will be for a term beginning in March 2023 and ending in December 2024.
The commission member appointed by the Council Member for District 4 will be eligible
for two additional four-year terms.
7.If there is a vacancy in a City Council district seat at the time of the Commission's initial
formation and appointment, the Mayor will make the appointment.
8.That the City Clerk Services Manager will add the vacancies for the Community-Police
Commission to the local appointment list prior to December 31, 2022.
PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED at a Regular Meeting of the City Council of the City of
Carlsbad on the 6th day of December, 2022, by the following vote, to wit:
