ROLL CALL: Chung, Ferone, Carrillo, George, Miringoff, Nassiri, Prater-Barker.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
Minutes of the regular Arts Commission meeting held September 1, 2022.
Motion by Commissioner George seconded by Commissioner Prater-Barker to approve the
Minutes of the regular meeting held on September 1, 2022, as amended.
Motion carried, 6/0/0/1 (Carrillo -Abstain)
PRESENTATIONS: Arianna Sharifi read her poem "The Very Life We Are Made Of, Trickles
of Sustenance," which was awarded the grand prize in the poetry category for the Sister Cities
International 2022 Young Artist and Authors Showcase. Carlsbad Sister City Ambassador Board
Member, and Director of the Young Artist and Authors Showcase program, Polly Yu was also in
attendance and briefly spoke about the Sister Cities International program.
PUBLIC COMMENT: None.
NATIONAL ARTS & HUMANITIES MONTH 2022: Cultural Arts Manager Richard Schultz shared a
brief overview of the films, activities, programs and shows that will be taking place in October.
2022 ARTS COMMISSION WORK PLAN FOLLOW-UP, PART Ill: Chair Chung led and continued
the discussion with all the commissioners. Commissioners raised questions and concerns about
the format of the Workplan Workshop. Mr. Schultz will explore any potential options.
CULTURAL ARTS MANAGER REPORT: Mr. Schultz reminded the commissioners to RSVP to the
upcoming Boards and Commissions Appreciation Event at Leo Carrillo Ranch on Oct. 25, 2022.
He also reminded the commissioners to please send any potential Community Arts Grants
panelist ideas or information to Arts Education Coordinator Wendy Sabin-Lasker.
ARTS COMMISSION CHAIR REPORT: Chair Chung shared that she was delighted to attend the
Michael Raye concert at Dove Library on Saturday.
ARTS COMMISSIONER COMMENTS: Chair Chung started the comments with Commissioner
Nassiri, who is the Arts Commission's representative for the Growth Management Committee.
Commissioner Nassiri shared the commission's mission before reminding the Arts Commission
that currently, Arts and Culture are not one of the "performance standards," but it has been
-proposed as an additional standard or as part of-a recommendation to be considered in the
future growth of Carlsbad. She asked fellow commissioners to please share their thoughts and

comments before the next GMC meeting on Nov. 12, 2022 . Commissioner George supported
the Arts & Culture as a new performance standard.
Commissioners shared the highlights of their participation at local arts events.
