Mr. Williams:
Group Delta Consultants, Inc. (Group Delta) is providing responses to comments from the City
of Carlsbad titled “Retaining walls, 1205 Aviara Pkwy, City of Carlsbad -SECOND REVIEW, City
Permit No.: PC2022-0053, True North No.: 22-018-401” and dated January 5, 2023. Our
responses follow the comments reproduced in italics below.
S2. Provide confirmation from the geotechnical engineer that it is acceptable to use passive
pressure resistance of (350 pcf)(H) without limit.
The passive pressure resistance provided in the referenced geotechnical is factored.
S3. Per Structural drawing, several soldier piles (SB #8 -#13) are permanent. In the design for
those permanent soldier piles, include seismic earth pressure 15H psf in addition to static active
earth pressure (45H psf or 60H psf) as suggested in Figure 7 of geotechnical report.
The revised shoring design dated January 11, 2023 includes the seismic increment.
S4. In timber lagging design, the lateral soil pressure distribution is based on certain "lagging
soil wedge function". Provide approval from the geotechnical engineer.
We agree with the response provided by the Shoring Design Group dated January 11, 2023.
