CALL TO ORDER: 4:03 p.m.
ROLL CALL: Trustees DeForest, Larson, McBride, Schatt and Sheffler
APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
Minutes of the Library Board of Trustees regular meeting held April 27, 2022.
Motion by Trustee DeForest, seconded by Trustee Larson, to approve the minutes as presented.
Motion carried, 4/0/0/1 (Sheffler-Abstain).
Minutes ofthe Libr.ary Board of Trustees regular meeting held May 25, 2022.
Motion by Trustee Larson, seconded by Trustee Sheffler, to approve the minutes as presented.
Motion carried, 3/0/0/2 (DeForest, Schatt -Abstain).
PUBLIC COMMENT: None
DEPARTMENTAL REPORTS:
1. MONTHLY LIBRARY REPORTS: The board received and discussed the monthly library report
for May 2022. Trustee DeForest commented on in-house computer use statistics and the
Homeless Resource Fair at the Library Learning Center. Trustee Larson commented on the
increase In material distribution. Trustee Schatt commented on revenue from the library's
rental facilities.
2. FY 2022-23 BUDGET NEXT STEPS: Senior Management Analyst Fiona Everett presented to
the board an update on the FY 2022-23 budget that was adopted on June 14, 2022 and
shared the next steps toward the elimination of overdue fines which will go into effect on
Sept. 1.
3. LIBRARY LEARNING CENTER OVERVIEW: Community Outreach Supervisors Carrie Scott and
Mayra Turchiano presented an overview of the programs and services provided at the
Library Learning Center.

DIRECTOR'S REPORT:
Director Smithson ugdated the board on a variety of topics: Interim Senior Librarian Bill
Sannwald has accepted the position as Senior Librarian Children's Services; staff attending the
American Library Association annual conference in person and virtually; on boarding summer
crew for TGIF Concerts in the Parks; donor acknowledgment webpage is active; contract for
design renovations for the Schulman Auditorium and Cannon Art Gallery will be presented to
City Council in July; fire alarm replacement project at the Carlsbad City Library on Dove Lane is
complete; new Library Board of Trustee Laurel Moran is in attendance; and a new Chair and
Vice Chair will be elected to the board at the July 27, 2022 meeting.
FOUNDATION REPORT:
Representative Schatt did not have a report to share.
FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY REPORT:
Library & Cultural Arts Director Suzanne Smithson reported The Friends of the Carlsbad Library
had their annual meeting on June 9; Friends of the Library annual donation will be presented to
City Council at the July 12 meeting; and the Friends are looking for volunteers.
GROWTH MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE REPORT:
Representatives Larson updated the board on the committee's work.
NORTH SAN DIEGO COUNTY GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY REPORT:
Board Liaison Mary MIiiet was not in attendance.
LIBRARY BOARD COMMENTS/ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Trustee Larson shared how proud he was to serve as a trustee and represent the city's libraries.
The trustees thanked Trustee Larson for his service and support as a board member.
