Subject: Tour of Properties with Historical Significance
Recommended Action
Receive overview of the historic property tours conducted with commissioners in December
2022 and provide feedback as necessary.
Executive Summary
The Historic Preservation Commission requested a tour of properties with historic significance
which were designated as historic by City Council resolution between the years 1986 and 1990.
The tours were conducted on three dates in December 2022.
Discussion
The Historic Preservation Commission received tours of the following properties:
1. Santa Fe Depot 400 Carlsbad Village Dr
2. Frazier’s Well/Alt Karlsbad 2802 Carlsbad Blvd
3. St Michael’s Episcopal Church 2775 Carlsbad Blvd
4. Magee House 258 Beech St
5. Hart Realty/South Coast Land Co 2956 State St
6. Carlsbad School District/Senior Center 801 Pine Ave
7. Gaus House 3442 Roosevelt St
8. Gage House/Monterey condominiums 3080 Lincoln St
9. Ramsay House 1330 Chuparosa Way
10. Culver/Myers/Capp House 3140 Highland Ave
11. Highland Bungalows 3264 Highland Ave
12. Calavera School Site/Gardens 2997 Glasgow Dr
13. Calavera Lake & Dam Trailhead at Tamarack
At its March 13, 2023 meeting, the Historic Preservation Commission should provide general
feedback about the tours, observations about the historical properties visited, and give
guidance to staff on how best to coordinate travel arrangements for future site visits or similar
tours, if any.

Fiscal Analysis
There is no direct fiscal impact associated with receiving this information report.
Environmental Evaluation (CEQA)
Pursuant to Public Resources Code Section 21065, this action does not constitute a “project”
within the meaning of the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) in that it has no
potential to cause either a direct physical change in the environment, or a reasonably
foreseeable indirect physical change in the environment, and therefore does not require
environmental review.
Public Notification and Outreach
This item was noticed in accordance with the Ralph M. Brown Act and was available for public
viewing and review at least 72 hours prior to scheduled meeting date.
