Page 2 Review Comments Beach Terrace Inn Alarm System, 2775 Ocean Street, Carlsbad, California 1. Per the provisions of the California Fire Code, section 907.10.1.3 at least two sleeping units in each building must be provided with audible/visual notification devices. Based on the battery calculation totals for the 24FS6/8 power supply this should not create a current draw in excess of the capacity of the batteries provided. These devices should be field verified to be in place. 2. The horn/strobe devices in the laundry and housekeeping rooms in the East building on level 1, did not have a candela rating specified. Based on the current shown in the battery calculations these devices should be 15 cd rated, with the audible setting at non-temporal high. This can be field verified. 3. The following errors on the 24F56/8 battery calculations have been blueline corrected on the drawing: Circuit titles were in error. Alarm current for standby power supply not shown on plans. Decimal error in total alarm current. Catalog data sheet for 24FS6/8 requires two 12V 7.0aH batteries to be installed as a minimum. The aH rating of the batteries on the plan has been corrected. 4. No provision was found to monitor fire sprinkler system tamper and water flow switches. We do not have data on whether or not this building is being protected by automatic sprinklers, however it would seem to be required for this type of occupancy. Field verify that if such devices are present that they are incorporated into the fire alarm system panel. 5. We strongly recommend the following operational tests be performed once the system installation has been completed. A "power off' test, where the normal power supply is shut off, and the system is left to function on battery power alone for a period of 24 hours, at which time the system should still be functioning and operational. At the end of the end of the above test, prior to the primary power being restored, the system should be placed in an "alarm" condition for a period of not less than five minutes, during which time all notification appliances, including the off-station notification, are to function as designed. Once the two prior tests have been completed, the current level in the batteries should be checked, the primary power restored, and at the end of 48 hours the current level checked again to verify that the charging function of the panel is both operational, and able to recharge the batteries within the time period specified by NFPA-72. Once the test in item "c" has been completed, one of the leads to the battery should be disconnected, to determine that the system will provide notification of an "off-normal" power condition to the monitoring company. t1 The FireLite MS-9200UDLS Rev 2 with Version 4.0 firmware is a combination FACP (Fire Alarm Control Panel) and DACT (Digital Alarm Communicator/Transmitter) all on one circuit board. This compact intelligent addressable control panel has an extensive list of powerful features. While the MS-9200UDLS Rev 2 may be used with an SLC configured in the CLIP (Classic Loop Interface Protocol) mode, it can also operate in LiteSpeedTM mode—FireLite's latest polling technology—for a quicker device response time. LiteSpeed's patented technology polls 10 devices at a time. This improvement allows a fully-loaded panel with up to 198 devices to report an incident and activate the notification cir- cuits in under 10 seconds. With Litespeed polling, devices can be wired on standard twisted, unshielded wire up to a distance of 10,000 feet. (Consult the wire table on page 5 for specific installation instructions.) The MS-9200UDLS Rev 2's quick-remove chassis protects the electronics during construction. The backbox can be installed allowing field wiring to be pulled. When construction is completed, the electronics can be quickly installed with just two bolts. Available accessories include ANN-BUS devices as well as ACS LED, graphic and LCD annunciators, and reverse polar- ity/city box transmitter. Version 4.0 firmware supports the following: ANN-bus devices, AD355 (LiteSpeed), USB port, NAC circuit diagnos- tics, a new report has been added to the walk-test that lists untested devices, new device types added: audio telephone type code for ACC 25/50ZST, Photo Supervisory and auto- resettable Drill (non-latching). The FireWatch Series internet monitoring modules IPDACT-2 and IPDACT-2UD permit monitoring of alarm signals over the Internet saving the monthly cost of two dedicated business telephone lines. Although not required, the secondary tele- phone line may be retained providing backup communication over the public switched telephone line. NOTE: Unless otherwise specified, the term MS-9200UDLS is used in this document to refer to both the MS-9200UDLS and the MS-9200UDLS(E) FACPs (Fire Alarm Control Panels). Features Listed to UL standard 864, 9th edition. On-board DACT. Remote site or local USB port u1oai'download, using PS- Tools. Four Style Y (Class B) or two Class A (Style Z) NAC cir- cuits. (Up to 6.0 amps, total NAC power when using optional XRM-24B.) Selectable strobe synchronization for System Sensor, Wheelock, and Gentex devices. Remote Acknowledge, Silence, Reset and Drill via addres- sable monitor modules or LCD-60F, ANN-80 or ACS Annunciators. ANN-BUS for connection to following, optional modules (can- not be used if ACS annunciators are used): - ANN-80(-W) Remote LCD Annunciator - ANN-I/O LED Driver - ANN-S/PG Printer Module - ANN-RLY Relay Module - ANN-LED Annunciator Module - ANN-RLED Annunciator Module alarms only ACS/TERM: - ACS Annunciators: Up to 32 ACM Series annunciators (ACM-1 6AT or ACM-32 series).. Cannot be used if ANN- BUS devices are used. - Terminal-mode Annunciators, Up ID 32 LCD-80F remote annunciators. S The integral DACT transmits system status (alarms, supervi- sories, troubles, AC loss, etc.) to a Central Station via the public switched telephone network. It also allows remote and local programming of the control panel using the PS-Tools Upload/Download utility. In addition, the control panel may be programmed or interrogated off-site via the public switched telephone network. Use up to 4 Class B (Style Y) outputs or 4 Class A (Style Z) outputs (using the ZNAC-4). In this example, the FACP notification appliance circuits will activate the FCPS-24FS6 when reverse polarity acti- vation occurs. Trouble conditions on the FCPS-24FS6 are sensed by the FACP through the Notification Appli- ance Circuit. Page 2 of 2 - DF-52301 07/08/04 Example 2 Use the FCPS-24FS6 to expand auxiliary regulated 24 volt system power up to 4 amps. Both non-resettable and resettable power options are available. Resettable outputs are created by connecting the resettable output from the FACP to one or both of the FCPS-24FS6 inputs. Example 3 Use addressable control modules to activate the FCPS- 24FS6 versus the FACP Notification Appliance Circuits. This typically allows for mounting the FCPS-24FS6 at greater distances* away from the FACP while expanding system architecture in various applications. In this example, an addressable control module is used to activate the FCPS-24FS6 and an addressable monitor module is used to sense FCPS-24FS6 trouble conditions. Local auxiliary power output from the FCPS-24FS6 pro- vides power to the addressable control module. Tire-Lite's MS-9200, MS-9200UD, (198-point) or MS-9600 (636- point) addressable FACPs have the capability of locating control and monitor modules up to 10,000 feet (3048 m) away. Sync Follower/Generator Note: In some installations, it is necessary to synchronize the flash timing of all strobes in the system for ADA compliance. Strobes accomplish this by monitoring very short timing pulses on the NAC power, which are created by a Fire Alarm Control Panel such as the Fire-Lite MS-9600. When installed at the end of a MS-9600 NAC wire run, this power supply can track (i.e. "follow") the strobe synchro- nization timing pulses on the existing NAC wire run. This maintains the overall system flash timing of the addi- tional strobes attached to this power supply. When this power supply is configured (via DIP switch settings) as a "sync follower," this supply's NAC outputs track the strobe synchronization pulses present at this supply's sync input terminal. The pulses are originated from an upstream FACP or other power supply. When this power supply is configured (via DIP switch settings) as a "sync generator," this supply's sync input terminal are not used. Rather, this power supply is the originator of the strobe synchronization pulses on this power supply's NAC outputs. In "sync generator' mode, the sync type (System Sensor, Wheelock, or Gentex) is selectable via DIP switch settings. A maximum of 8 devices can be connected to the FACP ANN-Bus communication circuit. See the FACP manual for more information. WIRE REQUIREMENTS: COMMUNICATIONS CIRCUIT The ANN-80 connects to the FACP ANN-BUS communications circuit. To determine the type of wire and the maximum wiring distance that can be used with FACP ANN-BUS accessory mod- ules, it is necessary to calculate the total worst case current draw for all modules on a single 4-conductor bus. The total worst case current draw is calculated by adding the individual worst case currents for each module. NOTE: For total worst case current draw on a single ANN-BUS refer to appropriate FACP manual. After calculating the total worst case current draw, the following table specifies the maximum distance the modules can he located from the FACP ott a single wire ruti. The table ensures 6.0 volts of line drop maximum. In general, the wire length Is lim- ited by resistance, but for heavier wire gauges, capacitance is the limiting factor. These cases are marked in the chart with an asterisk (*) Maxi- mum length can never be more than 6,000 feet (1,800 m), regardless of gauge used. See table below. WIRE REQUIREMENTS: POWER CIRCUIT 14 to 18 AWG (0.75 - 2.08 mm2) wire for 24 VDC power cir- cuit is acceptable. Power wire distance limitation is set by 1.2 volt maximum line drop form source to end of circuit. All connections are power-limited and supervised.
