Recommended Action
Adopt a resolution accepting a donation of $35,000 from the Carlsbad Friends of the Arts to the
City of Carlsbad Library & Cultural Arts Department.
Executive Summary
The Carlsbad Friends of the Arts are generously donating $35,000 in direct support of cultural
arts programs for fiscal year 2023-24.
Carlsbad Municipal Code Section 2.08.100 requires such donations of more than $5,000 to be
approved by the City Council.
Explanation & Analysis
The Carlsbad Friends of the Arts is a non-profit, community-based organization, founded in
1987 with the mission to support cultural arts programs and activities in the City of Carlsbad.
Historically, the Carlsbad Friends of the Arts have raised funds through opportunity drawings
conducted at the TGIF concerts, advertisements in a souvenir program distributed at the
concerts and through its membership program. The donation will provide additional support for
the TGIF concert series, Pop-up art programming at the concerts and other cultural arts
activities.
Fiscal Analysis
This $35,000 donation will be used to enhance cultural arts programming and activities
provided by the Library & Cultural Arts department.

Next Steps
If the donation is approved by the City Council, a letter of appreciation will be sent on behalf of
the City of Carlsbad and the Library & Cultural Arts Department to acknowledge the ongoing
support from the Carlsbad Friends of the Arts.
The donation from the Carlsbad Friends of the Arts will be appropriated to the Library &
Cultural Arts Department FY 2023-24 operating budget.
Environmental Evaluation
This action does not require environmental review because it does not constitute a project
within the meaning of the California Environmental Quality Act under California Public
Resources Code Section 21065 in that it has no potential to cause either a direct physical
change or a reasonably foreseeable indirect physical change in the environment.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, ACCEPTING A DONATION OF $35,000 FROM THE CARLSBAD FRIENDS OF THE ARTS TO THE CITY OF CARLSBAD LIBRARY & CULTURAL ARTS DEPARTMENT
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Carlsbad, California has determined that the Carlsbad
Friends of the Arts has generously offered to donate $35,000 to the City of Carlsbad's Library & Cultural
Arts department; and
WHEREAS, acceptance of this donation will provide enhanced cultural arts programming and
activities throughout the City of Carlsbad.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Carlsbad, California, as
follows:
1.That the above recitations are true and correct.
2.That the City Council accepts with thanks the donation of $35,000 from the Carlsbad
Friends of the Arts.
3.That the Finance Director, Administrative Services, shall appropriate the $35,000
donation to the Library & Cultural Arts Department FY 2023-24 operating budget to be
used to support cultural arts programs and services.
