LETTER OF SUPPORT
Five years ago, City Council approved the Arts & Culture Master Plan. This 10-year plan contains 49 action
items and is forward-thinking in its approach. As members of the Arts Commission, we wholeheartedly
support the goals of this ambitious document and are proud that Carlsbad is taking its place among the
many U.S. cities that recognize the arts, culture and creative sectors as fundamental to their city and
integral to a strong quality of life.
Encouraging creative expression through fine and performing arts can help all members of our community
become stronger and more resilient. Arts and culture have always been an essential part of what it means
to be human. Through its many forms, we are able to deepen our shared sense of community and become
inspired, delighted and connected to each other and to this special place we call “home.”
Community feedback indicates a strong interest in celebrating diversity and the Arts & Culture Master
Plan advocates for greater inclusivity. The Arts Commission is exploring various ways of accomplishing
this. Acknowledging the importance of collaboration between the public and private sectors, the Arts
Commission has actively supported the Business Sector area of the Arts & Culture Master Plan through its
Business Outreach Committee.
In conclusion, the Arts Commission would like to emphasize the importance of arts and culture to the
continued health and vibrancy of our city. To this end, we would like to recommend that City Council
continue its investment in the arts and culture by supporting the full activation of more initiatives in the
coming year.
Respectfully,
ARTS COMMISSION
