Adopt a resolution approving the 2024 Regular City Council Meeting Calendar.
Executive Summary/Discussion
Staff are asking the City Council to approve the 2024 schedule for regular City Council meetings.
The City Council establishes its regular meeting schedule annually by resolution. Adopting the
calendar by resolution meets the requirements of the state’s open meeting law, the Brown Act
(California Government Code Section 54954), and provides the City Council the opportunity to
increase notification to the public of its scheduled regular meetings. Special meetings can still
be called as needed by providing 24-hour notice before the time of the special meeting.
The City Council voted in 2022 to adopt the 2023 regular meeting calendar to schedule
meetings to take place at 5 p.m. at the Council Chamber at City Hall at 1200 Carlsbad Village
Drive.
At the regular meeting held on Sept. 12, 2023, the City Council directed staff to return with an
option for City Council discussion and consideration to begin Regular City Council meetings at 4 p.m.
for calendar year 2024.
Based on the City Council’s input at that meeting, staff have drafted the proposed resolutions
for the City Council’s consideration and adoption, one reflecting a 4 p.m. start time and the
other a 5 p.m. start time.
Fiscal Analysis
There are no significant fiscal impacts that would result from adoption of the attached
resolution.

Options
Staff provide the following options for the City Council’s consideration:
Option 1 – Adopt a resolution approving the 2024 Regular City Council Meeting Calendar
with all regular meetings scheduled to take place at 4 p.m.
Option 2 – Adopt a resolution approving the 2024 Regular City Council Meeting Calendar
with all regular meetings scheduled to take place at 5 p.m.
Next Steps
The City Clerk Services Manager will distribute the approved calendar to the City Council, staff
and local newspapers. In addition, the calendar will be posted on the City’s website.
Environmental Evaluation
This action does not require environmental review because it does not constitute a project
within the meaning of the California Environmental Quality Act under California Public
Resources Code Section 21065 in that it has no potential to cause either a direct physical
change in the environment or a reasonably foreseeable indirect physical change in the
environment.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARLSBAD,
CALIFORNIA, APPROVING THE 2024 REGULAR CITY COUNCIL MEETING
CALENDAR
WHEREAS, the City Council has determined that it will establish its scheduled regular meetings
annually by resolution; and
WHEREAS, the Ralph M. Brown Act, specifically California Government Code Section 54954,
provides for the establishment of an annual regular meeting calendar procedure; and
WHEREAS, all regular meetings will be scheduled to take place at 4 p.m. at the Council Chamber
located at 1200 Carlsbad Village Drive; and
WHEREAS, special meetings of the City Council will be called as necessary following the
requirements of the Brown Act, specifically California Government Code section 54956.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Carlsbad, California, as
follows:
1. That the above recitations are true and correct.
2. That the 2024 Regular City Council Meeting Calendar establishing the dates and
locations for regular City Council meetings (Attachment A) is approved.
3. That the 2024 Regular City Council Meeting Calendar will be posted to the city’s website.
4. That all regular meetings will be scheduled to take place at 4 p.m. at the Council
Chamber located at 1200 Carlsbad Village Drive.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARLSBAD,

CALENDAR
WHEREAS, the City Council has determined that it will establish its scheduled regular meetings
