I spoke with Brenda about the water flow.
She has an report from 09/06 from Life Guard for the Apts. at 6195 El Camino Real.
Here the results:
Static: 130 psi
Residual: 125 psi
Pitot: 100 psi

Brenda advise to have Dan call Greg to see if this will be suitable for our plans. If not let me know, and I will
schedule another one ASAFP.

Sprinkler Operation
The operating mechanism
is a frangible glass bulb
which contains a heat
responsive liquid. During a
fire, the ambient tempera-
ture rises causing the liquid
in the bulb to expand.
When the ambient temper-
attire reaches the rated
temperature of the sprin-
kler, the bulb shatters. As a
result, the waterway is
cleared of all sealing parts
and water is discharged
towards the deflector. The
deflector is designed to dis-
tribute the water in a pat-
tern that is most effective
in controlling the fire,

The die cast frame is more
streamlined and attractive
than traditional sand cast
frames. It is cast with a
hex-shaped wrench boss to
allow easy tightening from
many angles, reducing
assembly effort. This sprin-
kler is available in various
temperature ratings (see
chart on page 2) and
finishes to meet many
design requirements.
The recessed pendent
should be utilized with a
Model V27 recessed
escutcheon which pro-
'ides up to 3/4 (19 mm) of
adjustments.
Sprinkler Operation
The operating mechanism
is a frangible glass bulb
which contains a heat
responsive liquid. During a
fire, the ambient tempera-
ture rises causing the liquid
in the bulb to expand.
When the ambient temper-
ature reaches the rated
temperature of the sprin-
kler, the bulb shatters. As a
result, the waterway is
cleared of all sealing parts
and water is discharged
towards the deflector. The
deflector Is designed to
distribute the water in a
pattern that is most effec-
tive in controlling the fire.
Coverage
For coverage area and
sprinkler placement, refer
to NFPA 13 standards.

resistance to microbial colonization of
pipe walls, thereby delaying or possibly
preventing the onset of
Microbiologically Influenced corrosion
(MIC) when the First Sprinkler System
is first installed.
XL/BU[ pipe is manufactured to meet
ASTM A-135, Grade A for fire
sprinkler applications up to 300 Psi
working pressure.
Listed Approved Listed
It is UL listed for wet, dry, preaction
and deluge systems, and FM approved
for wet sprinkler systems. XL/BLT is
ULC listed for wet, dry and preaction
systems. All threaded and welded
fittings are approved in accordance with
NFPA 13.
FM requires 12' maximum hanger
spacing for XIJBLT. C-Factors for XIJ
BLT are 120 for wet systems, and
C=100 for dry systems. Refer to Hazen-
Williams charts for accurate flow
comparisons.
XL/BLI' pipe offers the maximum
hydraulic advantage of any available
threadable sprinkler pipe. Its inside
diameter is up to 5% larger than Sch-40.
The use of XLJBLI in conjunction with
Dyna-Flow pipe, can dramatically
improve the flow characteristics,
thereby increasing the potential for
"downsizing" system components.
The clean surface quality of XLJB LI. is
readily paintable. The lighter weight of
XLJBLT is a distinct advantage for
retro-fit installations and can also
reduce labor costs.

ANSI 1316.3
Manufactured by: Central Grooved Piping Products, Inc. a subsidiary of Central Sprinkler Company

DProduct
Description
Central Ductile Iron threaded fittings
conform to ANSI 816.3 and are
higher in strength and more corrosion
resistant than cast iron fittings. The
additional strength is provided by the
ductile properties making up the
fitting. This is accomplished by
adding magnesium while the iron is
being poured into its final cast shape.
-. This provides an advantage as the
,) fittings are not as susceptible to
leaks or cracking and they are also
lighter than standard cast iron.
Caution: Installers who have not
used ductile iron threaded fittings
before should be instructed that
the fitting is stronger than the pipe
and over-tightening the fitting can
create leaks and cause damage to
pipe threads. In general, there is
about one-half a turn difference
between cast iron and ductile Iron
fittings. Apply Teflon tape or high
quality pipe Joint compound on the
pipe threads and tighten two to
three turns beyond hand tight. if
you are using an automatic make-
on machine, please exercise
caution In setting your machine to
the proper parameters prior to
tightening fittings onto the male
pipe threads.

Fittings
PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
FireLock products com-
prise a unique system spe-
cifically designed for fire
protection services. Fire-
Lock full-flow elbows and
tees are a CAD-developed,
hydrodynamic design that
has a shorter center-to-end
dimension than standard
fittings. A noticeable bulge
allows the water to make a
smoother turn to maintain
similar flow characteristics
as standard full flow fit-
tings.
FireLock fittings are
designed for use exclu-
sively with Style 005 Fire-
Lock couplings. Use of
other couplings or flange
adapters may result in bolt
pad interference.
Victaulic FireLock fittings
pressure ratings conforth to
the ratings of Victaulic Fire-
Lock Style 005 couplings.

Special Notes
Engineering Note
In 1996 the screws listed by UL were tested in plate steel that measured .188 and .118. Subsequent testing was done for purlin applica-
tions on May 5, 1997 using .037 or 20 gauge steel.
Metric Sizes
Sammy Super ScrewsTm and SidewindersTm are available to hang metric threaded rod (6mm, 8mm, and 10mm) or bolt stock.
Sammy Nut Drivers
Special nut drivers were designed to be used with the Sammy Super ScrewTm anchoring system. When the appropriate nut drivers are
used for installation the driver spins free on the screw after installation is complete and eliminates the expected wrist snap, reduces
over-torque, and prevents screw failure. See installation procedures on pages 18 and 19.
Stainless Steel Screws
For standard stainless steel inventory, refer to pages 10 and 11. Additional screws can be made with mild screws and stainless steel
heads. Please call 888.773.0001 for additional information.
Steel Screws
Due to variations in hardness of certain metals, it should be noted our self-drilling screws for steel will experience different drill rates.
500-1500 RPM drill speed should be tried. Resulting drill chips should not be blue in color. Residual drill chips that are blue in color
indicate the drill RPM level is too high.
Vibratory Environments
For attaching or anchoring in high vibratory environments, special care should be taken not just for building attachments but also for
the hangers or assemblies being supported. Consult local code authorities for accepted anchoring devices.
TJI Joist I Truss
Truss manufacturers vary installation recommendations for TJI joist. Sidewinders SWG 20 and SWG 25-380 can be installed into the top
cord of a truss. Sammy (1ST 20 can be installed into the center of the lower cord of a TI!. Penetration of the upright center web is
permitted by some joist manufacturers.
Pre-drilling may be required by joist manufacturers. If so, pre-drill pilot 1/8" smaller than root diameter of fastener. Consult table below:
Model Root Diameter Hole Size
GST2O 0.182 1/8"
CT 25-380 0.280 7/32"
SWG20 0.182 1/8"
SWG25-380 0.280 7/32"
To increase efficiency of the installation process, sleeve tools, bit receivers and wood bits are available for pre-drilling.
NFPA Requirements
Sammy screws noted with NFPA under "Approvals" column meet NFPA requirements. Check with local Authority Having Jurisdiction
to confirm application and usage.

These devices may be mounted on horizontal or vertical pipe. On horizontal pipe they should be installed on the top side of
the pipe where they will be accessible. The units should not
be installed within 6" of a fitting which changes the direction of the waterflow or within 24' of a valve or drain.
Drain the system and drill a hole in the pipe using a circular
saw in a slow speed drill. The 2' (50mm) and 2 1/2" (65mm) devices require a hole with a diameter of 1 1/4" i- 1/8" - 1/16' (33mm ±2mm). All other sizes require a hole with a diameter
of 2' ±1/8" (50mm ±2mm).
Clean the inside pipe of all growth or other material for a
distance equal to the pipe diameter on either side of the hole.
Roll the vane so that it may be inserted into the hole; do not bend or crease it. Insert the vane so that the arrow on the saddle points in the direction of the waterflow. Install the saddle strap and tighten nuts alternately to an eventual 50 if-lbs. of torque (see Fig. 2). The vane must not rub the inside of the pipe or bind in any way.
