Series LFII Residential
Concealed Pendent Sprinkler, Flat Plate
42 K-factor
;
General
Description
The Series LFII (TY2598) Residential
Concealed Pendant Sprinklers are
decorative, last response, fusible sol-
der sprinklers designed for use in resi-
(jential cocupancias such a, homes,
apartments, dormitories, and hotels.
The cover plate assembly conceals the
sprinkler operating components above
the calling. The flat profile of the cover
plate providoe the optimum aestheti.
cally appealing sprinkler design. In ad-
dition, the concealed design of the Se-
ries LFII (TY2596) provides 1/4 inch
—(64 mm) vertical adjustinent..This.ad-
Justmerit reduces the accuracy to
which the kid pipe drops to the sprin-
kiere must be out to help assure a
perfect fit Installation.
The Series LFII are to be used in wet
pipe residential sprinkfor systems for
one- and two-family dwellings and mo-
bile homes per NFPA 13b; wet pipe
residential sprinkler systems for real-
dntisi occupancies up to and Inciud.
lrig tour stories In height per NFPA
13R; or, wet pipe sprinkler systems for
the residential portions of any occu-
pancy per NFPA 13.
The Series LFII (TY2596) has a 4,2
(60,5) K-factor that provides the re-
quired residential flow rates at reduced
pressures, enabling emallorpipe sizes
and water supply requirements,
he Series IFli (TY2596) has bean
designed with heat sensitivity and
water distribution Characteristics
proven to help in the control of residen-
tial fires and to Improve the Chsne for
occupants to escape or be evacuated.
The Series LFII (TY2596) Residential
Concealed Pendent Sprinklers are
shipped with a Disposable Protective
Cap. The Protective Cap istornporarily
removed for Installation, and thin It
can be repiacid to help protect tile
sprinkler while the ceiling is being in-
sstiwu or nnisnso. I ne up OT me 'ro-
tocve Cap can also be used to mark
the canter of the ceiling hole into plas-
ter board, ceiling tiles, etc. by gently
pushing the ceiling product against the
Protective Cap. When the ceiling In-
steflatlon is complete the Protective
Cap is removed and the Cover Plate Assembly Instalied,

Operation
When eoeed to heat from a Fire, the
Cover Plate, which Is normally sol, dered to the Support Cup at three
points, falLs away to expose the Sprin.
kier Assembly. At this point the Deflec-tor m.ported by the Arms drape down
toils operated poeitlon. The fusible link of the Sprinkler Assembly Is com-prised of two link halves that are aol- rid together with a thin layer Vaal-der, When the rated temperature is
reached, the soldier melts and the two
link halves separate allowing the sprin-kler to activate and flow water.
Design
CrIteiIa
The Series LF11 (?2596) Residential CarosIed Pendent 3prlrbciers are UL
and C-UL Liatd for Installation in ac-cordance with the bUIng criteria.
NOTE When conditions exist that are outs/tie the scop* of the pro vided cma1a, refer to the Resid&itial Sprinkler Design
uid* TFP490 for the mmriufaowter's rscnmendadons that may be act to the Authority H#VkV Jufladic-lion.
System Type. Only wet pipe Systems
may be LZtli1Zld.
Hydraulic Design. The minimum re-lied sprinkler flow rate for sretern$ desIgned to NFPA 130 or NPPA 13R
are givan In 'Th.ble A as a function of temperature rating and the mcimum allowable coverage areas. The spriri--kier flow rats Is the mirl mum rquired
discharge from each of the total
number of 'design sprinklera'a., speci-
fied In NFPA 130 or NFPA 13R.
For systorna designed to NFPA 13, the number of design sprinklers is to be e the four most hydraulically d. rnanding sprinklers. The minimum re-
quired discharge from each of the four sprinklers Is to be the greater of the following:
- The flQw rates given In Table A for
NFPA 130 and 13R as a Function of temperature rating and the maxi-mum allowable coverage area.
A minimum dlsOhaigeotO.1 gprrVsq.
ft. over the'design area' comprised of the four most hydraulically de-
manding sprinklers for the actual coverage areas being protected by the four sprinklers.
Obstruction To Water Distribution. Locations of sprinklers are to be In
accordance with the obstruction rules of NFPA 13 for residential sprinklers.
Operational Sensitivity. The sprin. kiers are to be installed relative to the ceiling mounting surface as shown In
Figure 2.
Sprinkler Spacing. The minimum
spacing between sprinklers is S feet
(2,4 m). The maximum spacing be.
twaen sprinklers cannot exceed the
length of the coverage area (Ref. Table
A) being hydraulically calculated maximum 12 feat for a 12 ft. a 12 ft. coverage area, or 20 feet (Or a 20 ft. x 20 ft. coverage area).
Installation
The Series LFiI (7Y2596) must be In-stalled in acoordence with the follow-ing Instructions:
NOTES Damage to the fusible Link Assembly during itistal/tQti O$fl be avoided by l2andllng the sprinkler by the frame
arms only (I. a., do no: apply pressure to the fusible link Au,rnbly).
A leak fight 1/2 inch NPT sprinkler Joint
should beobbinecl 0h torque of 7
tO 74 fl.(bs. (9,5 to 19,0 Nm), A msai-mum of 21 ftlbs. (28,5 Nm) of torque Is to be used to install sprinklers. Hl9P7r/'ais of torque may distort the sprinkler kiet with consequent leak-age or impairment of the spr1nklr.
Do not attempt to compensate for in. sufficient adjLastmantin an Escutcheon Plate by under. or over-tightening the
Sprinkler. Readjust the position of the sptink/et fiWI7g to suit.
Step I. The sprinkler must only be Installed In the pendent position and
with the centerline of the sprinkler per-pendicular to the mounting surface.
Step 2. Remove the Protective Cap.
Step 3. With pipe thread sealant ap-plied to the pipe threads, and using the W-Typs 18 Wrench shown in Figure 3, install and tighten the Sprinkler/Sup-port Cup Assembly into the fitting. The
W-Type 18 Wrench will accept a 112 inch ratchet drive.
Step 4. Replace the Protective Cap cy pushing it upwards until it bottoms out against the Support Cup. The Protec-tive Cap helps prevent damage to the
Deflector and Arms during ceiling Iri-
stIlation and/or during application of

The Viking MIer6fistHP0 Model M Quick Response Sprinkler is a smell, th.rrr-
sensitive glue-bulb spray sprinkler for
use with water working prsur.s
ranging tromths minimum 7 P61(483
kPa) up to 250 PSI (1 724 kPa) for
high-pressure systems. The hIgh pressure (HP) sprinkler can be Iden-
tilled byIocatingthenumber'250 on this dsfieàtor.
Viking MicrostHPModel M Quick R-
spoflse Sprinklers are available in L'p-
right, pendant, and horizontal sidaH
styles with several finishes and tem-
perature ratings to meet design require-
ments. Thu special polyester and T.f-
Ion' coatings can be used in decorative
applications when, colors are desired,
In addition, these two finishes are corro-
sion resistant and pro4de protection
against many corrosive environments. The pip cap and -sealing assembly of the
sprrnklsr are held in place by a rugged
3mm glass bulb. Ouring firs conditions, when the temperature around the sprin-
Tdir reaches its; operating temperature,
the hest-gerreitivu liquid in the glass bulb
expends, causing the bulb to sliatter,
releasing the pip cap end sealing spring
assembly. Wat8r floving through the
sprinkler orilice.*iicea the eprinkierde-
flector, forming a uniform spray pattern
to extinguish or control the fire.
