1) There was an error in the hydraulic calculations. The plans show the piping from the base of
the riser to the meter as 11/4" PVC, while the calculations show this diameter as 1 ½". A quick
evaluation, attached to the calculations, shows the required pressure at the source will increase
by slightly more than 2.0 psi if the smaller diameter is installed. This would reduce the
pressure margin at the source to 24.2 (26.2-2.1), with a required pressure of 49.4 psi. This
would equal approximately 67% of the available supply pressure, which does not exceed the
maximum of 90% allowed. No resubmittal or revision to the plans is required.
The following comments are for your information and will appear on every residential sprinkler
review.
The alarm bell must be capable of being heard, above background noise, with doors closed, in
all living areas of the residence. This will be checked at final acceptance.
Pressure required at base of riser will be verified to be available at time of final acceptance.
Sprinkler heads are omitted from bathroom areas under 55 SF in area with noncombustible
plumbing fixtures. Fixtures will be verified at final acceptance.
Sprinkler head blockage or pattern disruption caused by beams or other obstructions will be
verified to not exist at final acceptance inspection.
Sprinkler heads should be located the proper distance from heat sources (stoves, kitchen
ranges, fireplaces, heat diffusers, etc.) This will be checked at final acceptance inspection.
Sprinkler heads located in an unconditioned space (garage, water heater closet, etc.) should be
fast response type with an appropriate temperature rating, commercial heads are acceptable in
these areas.
All exposed piping shall be black steel or copper. Concealed piping can be CPVC plastic.
