Receive a presentation from a representative of the City of Carlsbad’s Police Department that
will provide an overview of traffic and mobility-related police matters during the months of
August and September 2023, including notable news for the month of October.
Fiscal Analysis
This action has no fiscal impact.
Environmental Evaluation
In keeping with California Public Resources Code Section 21065, this action does not constitute
a “project” within the meaning of the California Environmental Quality Act in that it has no
potential to cause either a direct physical change in the environment, or a reasonably
foreseeable indirect physical change in the environment. Therefore, it does not require
environmental review.
Public Notification and Outreach
This item was noticed in keeping with the Ralph M. Brown Act and it was available for public
viewing and review at least 72 hours before the scheduled meeting date.

OCTOBER NOTABLE NEWS
•On September 15, CHP and CPD hosted a DUI checkpoint at Carlsbad
Blvd. & Beech St. 753 cars, 1 DUI arrest, and 3 citations for unlicensed.
•On October 28, at 6:28 p.m., a motorcyclist traveling S/B in the 4600
block of Carlsbad Blvd. at a high rate of speed crashed into the back of
another vehicle traveling in the same direction. The motorcyclist was
ejected, transported to the hospital, and later died.
• A $200,000 OTS grant was awarded by the state and approved by the
council. The grant will support increased enforcement and education
efforts.
