CALL TO ORDER: 3 p.m.
ROLL CALL: Rangus, Venegas-Garcia, Ross, Schouwe, Fitz-Patrick.
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE: Vice Chair Venegas-Garcia led the Pledge of Allegiance.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
Minutes of the Special Meeting held Sept. 18, 2023
Motion by Commissioner Fitz-Patrick, seconded by Vice Chair Venegas-Garcia, to approve the
minutes of the Special Meeting held on Sept. 18, 2023, as presented. Motion carried, 5/0.
PRESENTATIONS: None.
CONSENT CALENDAR: None.
PUBLIC COMMENT: None.
PUBLIC HEARINGS: None.
DEPARTMENTAL REPORTS:
1. DEPARTMENT REPORT ON SENIOR ACTIVITIES AND PROGRAMS – Receive a report on recently
completed and upcoming Adults 50+ activities and programs, as well as other topics of inter-
est. (Staff Contact: Eric Biggin, Parks & Recreation Department)
Recommendation: Commission Received the report.
Recreation Area Manager Eric Biggin and Recreation Supervisor Andi Koller presented a
Power Point presentation (on file in the Office of the City Clerk) on recently completed and
upcoming Senior Center activities and programs, as well as other topics of interest.
The Commission received the report.
COMMISSION COMMENTARY AND REQUESTS FOR CONSIDERATION OF MATTERS:
This portion of the agenda is for the Commission to make brief announcements, brief reports of
their activities and requests for future agenda items.
Chair Rangus expressed she would like an age friendly update from the other departments in-
volved in the Age Friendly Action Plan.

Chair Rangus and Commissioner Ross went on a field trip and visited one park in each of the four
districts to familiarize themselves with our parks.
Commissioner Ross currently volunteers at the senior Center and is interested in showing his
support through an individualized task to share updates and accomplishments.
Chair Rangus and Chair Schouwe expressed their interest in providing information for our seniors
about current and future services provided in San Diego County specifically the area of Aging and
Independent Services. Commissioner Schouwe would like he Senior Center to host a “feedback”
night so seniors can learn about the resources that are available and can communicate what their
needs from the community are.
DIRECTOR’S COMMENTS: Parks & Recreation Director Kyle Lancaster assured the Senior Com-
mission that topics of interest like the Outreach Program can be added to their 2024 Work plan
and discussed at the next regularly scheduled meeting.

ADJOURNMENT: Chair Rangus adjourned the meeting at 3:51 p.m.
