GENERAL
1. Please make all corrections, as requested in the correction list. Submit FOUR new
complete sets of plans for commercial/industrial projects (THREE sets of plans for
residential projects). For expeditious processing, corrected sets can be submitted
in one of two ways:
1. Deliver all corrected sets of plans and calculations/reports directly to the City of
Carlsbad Building Department, 1635 Faraday Ave., Carlsbad, CA 92008, (760)
602-2700. The City will route the plans to EsGil and !he Carlsbad Planning,
Engineering and Fire Departments.
2. Bring TWO corrected set of plans and calculations/reports to EsGil, 9320
Chesapeake Drive, Suite 208, San Diego, CA 92123, (858) 560-1468. Deliver all
remaining sets of plans and calculations/reports directly to the City of Carlsbad
Building Department for routing to their Planning, Engineering and Fire
Departments.
NOTE: Plans that are submitted directly to EsGil only will not be reviewed by the
City Planning, Engineering and Fire Departments until review by EsGil is complete.
2. All sheets of the plans and the first sheet of the calculations are required to be
signed by the licensed architect or engineer responsible for the plan preparation.

3. Provide a statement on the Title Sheet of the plans, stating that this project shall
comply with the 2019 California Building Code, which adopts the 2018 IBC, 2018
UMC, 2018 UPC and the 2017 NEC.
ADDITIONAL ITEMS FOR R1 AND R2 OCCUPANCIES
4. Walls and floors separating dwelling units in the same building, or guest rooms in
Group R-1 hotels, shall be fire partitions or horizontal assemblies as required by
Sections 708 and 711. Sections 420.2 and 420.3.
a) Such fire partitions and floors shall have a fire-resistance rating of not less
than 1-hour (except in buildings of Type IIB, IIIB and VB Construction with
automatic sprinkler systems (complying with Section 903.3.1.1 ), where the
fire-resistance rating may be reduced to ½-hour). Section 708.3.
b) Such fire partitions shall extend to the underside of the floor/roof sheathing
above.
i) In lieu of extending the wall to the floor/roof sheathing above, they
may terminate at the fire-resistance-rated roof/ceiling assembly
above. In this case, the space between the ceiling and the deck
above shall be fire-blocked or draftstopped in accordance with
Sections 718.2 and 718.3 at the partition line. Section 708.4.
5. Wall and floor/ceiling assemblies separating dwelling units from each other and
from common space (such as corridors, laundry rooms, common garages, service
areas, etc.) must have a listed rating of STC 50 (and IIC of 50 for floors). Section
