TRAFFIC SAFETY COMMISSION
STAFF REPORT
COMMISSION MEETING OF: June 7, 2010
LOCATION: NIA
INITIATED BY: City Engineer
ITEM NO. 6E
REQUESTED ACTION: Elect a new Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson of the Traffic Safety
Commission to serve from August 20 IO through July 2011.
BACKGROUND:
Each year, it has been customary for the Traffic Safety Commission (TSC) to rotate the
role of the Chairperson by electing a Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson to serve a
one-year term beginning in August. Generally, after serving as Vice-Chairperson,
the Vice-Chairperson is elected the Chairperson of the Traffic Safety Commission for the
following year. The TSC policy has been for each Commissioner, if interested, to serve
one year as Chairperson on a rotating basis.
In past years, the Commission recommended that the terms of the Chairperson
and Vice-Chairperson run from August through the following July. The selection of
the Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson is typically conducted each year at the June or
July meeting of the Traffic Safety Commission.
At the July 2009 meeting, Jack Cumming was elected Chairperson to serve from August
2009 through July 2010. Mr. Cumming was the Vice-Chairperson at the time of his
election to Chairperson.
In the absence of the Chairperson, the Vice-Chairperson conducts the meeting. Mr. Guy
Roney is the current Vice-Chairperson. Commissioner Roney previously served as
the Chairperson of the Commission from August 2007 through July 2008. Commissioner
Cress served as Chair of the Traffic Safety Commission from August 2008 through July
2009. Commissioner's Valderrama and Gallagher were appointed to the Commission in
2009.
RECOMMENDATION:
Elect a Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson, as determined by the Traffic Safety
Commission, to serve from August 2010 through July 2011.
NECESSARY CITY COUNCIL ACTION:
No action required.
