Dear Mr. Rick:
ln accordance with your request Hetherington Engineering, Inc. has provided third-party
geotechnical review of Reference I . The following comments are provided for analyses
and/or response by the Geotechnical Consultant.
GEOTECHNICAL REVIEW COMMENTS:
1. The Consultant should provide a Location Map for the site with reference north, scale,
etc.
2. The Consultant should provide a geotecbnical update addressing the grading plans, and
provide updated grading and foundation recomm_endations and seismic design criteria
consistent with the 2019 California Building Code and ASCE 7-16, as necessary.
3. The Consultant should review the project grading, foundation and shoring plans,
provide any additional geotechnical recommendations considered necessary, and
confirm that the plans have been prepared in accordance with the geotechnical
recommendations provided in the geotechnical report.

4. The Consultant should provide an updated geotechnical map/plot plan utilizing the
latest grading plan for tb e project to cleaf'ly show (at a minimum) a) existing site
topography, b) proposed structures/improvements, c) proposed finished grades, d)
locations of the subsurface exploration, e) geologic contacts, and t) remedial grading
limits, etc.
5. The Consultant should provide geologic cross-sections utilizing the current grading
plan to clearly show (at a minimum) a) existirtg site topography, b) proposed
structures/improvements, c) proposed finished grades, d) geologic contacts, e}geologic
stnlcture, f) locations of the subsurface ex,ploration, g) temporary construction slopes,
and h) remedial grading, etc.
6. The Const1ltant should provide a statement regarding the impact of the proposed
grading and construction on adjacent properties and improvements.
7. The Consultant should provide remedial grading recommendations for proposed
driveway/hardscape areas.
8. The Const1ltant should provide bardscape recommendations (thickness, reinforcement,
jo.ints, etc.).
9. The Consultant should specify an allowable passive pressure for the foundations in
accordance with the presumptive values provided in Secti9n l 806.2 of the 2Q 19 CBC
or provide shear strength testing to support the recommended value.
10. The Consultant should specify the sulfate exposure category (AC[ 318) based on
soluble sulfate testing and provide recomnwndations for sulfate resist~nt concrete, if
necessary, br default to a severe exposure category, if testing is not available.
I l. The Consultaht should provide a list of recommended observation and testi[!g during
site grading and construction.
12. The Consultant should provide an updated list ofreferehces.
