The set screws are square-headed with Type C knurled cup points, and are shipped already assembled in the Glands. They are manufactured of 4140 grade alloy steel, and are heat treated to a Rock- wall "C" 45/53 case hardness. Tee-head bolts and gaskets are not included, but may be ordered separately. Recommend- ed torque for set screws is 75 foot pounds, and set screws on opposite sides of the glands should be tightened alternately. Tee-head bolt hole size and spac- ing are equal to Mi Glands as shown in AWWA C-i 11. Standard mechanical Joint gaskets as shown in C-i 11 should be used. Dimensions and weights of Special Classes (Thickness Classes) are found on pages 13, 14, 15 and 16. * Pressure Classes are defined as the rated water pressure of the pipe in psi. The thicknesses shown are adequate for the rated water working pressure plus a surge allowance of 100 psi. Calculations are based on a minimum yield strength of 42,000 and a 2.0 safety factor times the sum of the working pressure and 100 psi surge allowance. ** Calculated thickness for these sizes and pressure ratings are less than those shown above. Presently these are the lowest nominal thicknesses available in these sizes. U.S. PIPE AND FOUNDRY CO. TYTON JOINT Pipe BRO-003 REVISED 01.06 CUSTOM PIPE & COUPLING INC. FLANGED DUCTILE IRON PIPE Ductile iron pipe is commonly fabricated for use as interior process piping in water and sewage treatment facilities and has been covered by ANSI standards since 1926. Under direction of Committee A/21 of AWWA, this standard is subject to periodic review and is updated to include fabricator practices reflecting current usage in the industry. Flanged ductile iron pipe is fabricated by means of threading the pipe and attaching threaded companion flanges in accordance with ANSI/AWWA C1 15/A21.15. Taper pipe threads in accordance with ANSI B21 table 15.1 and 152 of above standard. Machine tightened flanges and pipe ends shall be faced after fabrication. Length, weight and fabrication mark (if other than-flange manufacturer) must appear on each piece of fabricated pipe. FLANGES Class 125 Flanges Standard flanges are plain-faced without projection or raised faces and are furnished smooth or with shallow serrations (re: table 15.3 ANSI/AWWA C115/A21.15). Either ductile-iron or gray-iron flanges may be used unless otherwise specified by the owner. Flanges shall conform to the respective chemical and physical properties specified for gray-iron and ductile iron fittings in ANSI/AWWA Cl 10/A21. 10, Standard for Ductile-Iron and Gray-Iron Fittings, 3 in. through 54 in., for Water and Other Liquids. Flanges are to be adequately marked as C. I. or D. I., Class Rating, Manufacturer or Fabricator's mark if different from manufacturer. In severe environments, the life of the pipe has been significantly shortened. Extensive tests and field installations for over 47 years have shown that loose polyethylene encasement of the pipe is an effective and economical means of corrosion protection. PRODUCT USE / DESCRIPTION Polyethylene film prevents contact between the pipe and the surrounding soil for corrosion protection. However, it is notexpected to be an airtight or watertight encasement. It is available In natural (clear), black, purple, blue, green and custom colors, and it is offered in widths suitable for all pipe sizes. INSTALLATION Per AWWA C105-05 there are 3 installation methods. Method A, the most commonly used is described here. The 8 mil polyethylene tube should be cut to lengths that provide a one foot overlap beyond each end of a pipe section. Slip the tubing over the pipe with the printed side up, and bunch it back to clear both ends. A shallow bell hole should be made to facilitate Installation of the polyethylene. Lower pipe into position and make up the joint. Pull tubing over the joint from the preceding pipe length and tape it securely to the new pipe length. Overlap the polyethylene from the new pipe length back over the same joint and tape in place on the preceding pipe barrel. Pull the polyethylene along the length of the new pipe, folding excess tubing over the top of the pipe barrel and securing It every 3 to 4 feet. Keep the excess polyethylene for the overlap of the next joint bunched back from the joint in preparation for making the next joint. Repeat this process for each polyethylene taped Into place. SPECIFICATIONS The 8 mil minimum, group 2, linear low density, fiat tube, virgin polyethylene film provided meets or exceeds the requirements of AWWA C105-05, ANSI A21.5-05, ASTM 04976 and NT4112-05. This device is available in two models; the OSYSU-1, containing one set of SPDT (Form C) contacts and the OSYSU-2, containing two sets of SPDT (Form C) contacts. These switches mount conveniently to most OS & Y valves ranging in size from 2" to 12" (50mm to 300mm). They will mount on some valves as small as 1/2" (12,5mm). The cover is held in place by two tamper resistant screws that require a special tool to remove. The tool is furnished with each device and should be left with the building owner or responsible party. Replacement or additional cover screws and hex keys are available. Remove and discard "C" washer and roller from the trip rod. With the valve in the FULL OPEN position, locate the OSYSU across the valve yoke as far as possible from the valve gland. so that the trip rod lays against the non-threaded portion of the valve stem. Loosen the locking screw that holds the trip rod in place and adjust the rod length (see Fig. 4). When adjusted properly, the rod should extend past the valve scre but not so far that it contacts the clamp bar. Tighten the locking screw to hold the trip rod in place. NOTE: If trip rod length is excessive, loosen the locking screw and remove the trip rod from the trip lever. Using pliers, break off the 1" (25mm) long notched section (see Fig. 5). Reinstall trip rod and repeat Step 3 procedure. Mount the OSYSU loosely with the carriage bolts and clamp bar supplied. On valves with limited clearance use i-hooks supplied instead of the carriage bolts and clamp bar to mount the OSYSU. Mark the valve stem at the center of the trip rod. Remove the OSYSU. File a 1/8" (3.2mm) deep groove centered on the mark on the valve stem utilizing a 3/16" (4,8mm) round. non-tapered file. Round and smooth the edges of the groove to prevent damage to the valve packing and to allow the trip rod to move easily in and out of the groove as the valve is operated. Mount the OSYSU with the trip rod centered in groove. Final adjustment is made by loosening 2 screws (see Fig. 1) and sliding the OSYSU on the bracket. Adjustment is correct when switches are not activated with the trip rod seated in the valve stem groove and that the switches activate when the trip rod moves out of the groove. Tighten the adjustment screws and all mounting hardware. Check to insure that the rod moves out of the groove easily and that the switches activate within one turn when the valve is operated from the FULL OPEN towards the CLOSED position. NOTE: CLOSE THE VALVE FULLY TO DETERMINE THAT THE STEM THREADS DO NOT ACTIVATE THE SWITCH. THE SWITCH BEING ACTIVATED BY THE STEM THREADS COULD RESULT IN A FALSE VALVE OPEN INDICATION.
