Product Description The Reliable LifeSaver Model F1/RES/3 Concealed Sprinkler is an attractive, low profile concealed residential sprinkler assembly. This sprinkler assembly utilizes a Model F1/RES/3 pendent residential sprinkler in a sepa- rate special Model CCP cup and coverplate assembly. The cup is securely field threaded onto the sprinkler inlet end. The sprinkler and cup are easily installed into the drop nipple using the Model RC1 Sprinkler Wrench. The attractive, low profile cover plate assembly is attached to the sprinkler cup using a strong threaded engagement. Two attractive coverplate assemblies are available, the first provides 1/2" of coverplate adjustment while the second provides an even lower profile with 5/16" maxi- mum adjustment. The Model F1/RES/3 Concealed Residential Sprinkler is a fast response residential glass bulb sprinkler. This sprinkler utilizes a 3.0 mm frangible glass bulb. These sprinklers have demonstrated response times which are 5 to. 10 times faster than standard response sprinklers of the same temperature rating. The Model F1/RES/3 Concealed Residential Sprinkler discharges water in an hemispherical pattern below the sprinkler deflector. The residential distribution pattern is higher and generally contains a finer droplet size than standard sprinkler patterns. This combination of speed of response and special distribution pattern has demonstrated, in fire testing, an ability to control residential fires, providing significant evacuation time for occupants and thereby, saving lives. The Model F1/RES/3 Concealed Residential Sprinkler is a UL Listed residential sprinkler intended to be installed in wet pipe sprinkler systems of one and two family dwellings and mobile homes, in residential occupancies up to four stories in height, or in the residential portions of any occupancy per NFPA13D, 13R, 0113. The assembly is completed by the installation of the attractive, low profile, 135°F rated Model CCP Coverplate Assembly. The cover- plate and sprinkler cup assemblies are attached using a strong threaded engagement. A choice of two coverplate assemblies provides either 1/2" or 5/16" of cover adjust- ment. The coverplate is attached to the skirt using 135°F ordinary temperature classification fusible alloy. When the ceiling temperature rises, the solder attaching the cover plate and skirt fuses, thus releasing the coverplate and exposing the sprinkler to the rising ceiling temperature. Continued increases in air temperature cause sprinkler bulb operation, which opens the waterway and allows the discharging water to be distributed in a hemispherical pattern below the sprinkler deflector. Following installation, any engagement of the cover- plate assembly and cup assures that the sprinkler is properly positioned relative to the ceiling. The LifeSaver Model F1/RES/3 Concealed Sprinkler must be installed in ceilings with a neutral or negative pressure in the plenum space above the sprinkler. After installation, inspect all sprinklers to ensure that both the gap between the coverplate and skirt and the cup slots are open and free from any air flow impediment. The sprinkler cup is to be firmly attached to the Model F1/RES/3 sprinkler. A teflon based thread sealant should be applied to the sprinkler threads only. The Model RC1 Wrench is then used to engage the sprinkler wrenching surfaces and to install the sprinkler in the fitting. A 2 % diameter hole cut into the ceiling allows sprinkler installa- tion and is properly covered by the cover plate/skirt flange overlap. The Model F1/RES/3 Concealed Sprinkler is only to be installed with 135°F rated Model CCP Concealed cover plate assemblies. The Models Fl FR and Fl FR Recessed automatic sprinklers utilize a 3.0mm frangible glass bulb. These sprinklers have demonstrated response times in labora- tory tests which are five to ten times faster than standard response sprinklers. This quick response enables the Model Fl FR and Fl FR Recessed sprinklers to apply wa- ter to a fire much faster than standard sprinklers of the same temperature rating. The glass bulb consists of an accurately controlled amount of special fluid hermetically sealed inside a pre- cisely manufactured glass capsule. This glass bulb is specially constructed to provide fast thermal response. The balance of parts are made of brass, copper and be- ryllium nickel. At normal temperatures, the glass bulb contains the fluid in both the liquid and vapor phases. The vapor phase can be seen as a small bubble. As heat is applied, the liquid expands, forcing the bubble smaller and smaller as the liquid pressure increases. Continued heating forces the liquid to push out against the bulb, causing the glass to shatter, opening the waterway and allowing the deflector to distribute the discharging water. The temperature rating of the sprinkler is identified by the color of the glass bulb. Application Quick response sprinklers are used in fixed fire pro- tection systems: Wet, Dry, Deluge or Preaction. Care must be exercised that the orifice size, temperature rat- ing, deflector style and sprinkler type are in accordance with the latest published standards of the National Fire Protection Association or the approving authority having jurisdiction. Quick response sprinklers are intended for installation as specified in NFPA 13. Quick response sprinklers and standard response sprinklers should not be intermixed. The Model Fl or F2 Es- cutcheons illustrated are the only recessed escutcheons to be used with the Model Fl FR Sprinklers. The use of any other recessed escutcheon will void all approvals and negate all warranties. When installing Model F1FR Sprinklers use the Model D Sprinkler Wrench. When installing Model F1FR Re- cessed Sidewall Sprinklers use the Model GFR1 Sprin- kler Wrench. Use the Model RC1 Wrench for installing Fl FR Recessed Pendent Sprinklers. Maintenance The Models Fl FR and Fl FR Recessed Sprinklers should be inspected quarterly and the sprinkler system maintained in accordance with NFPA 25. Do not clean sprinklers with soap and water, ammonia or any other cleaning fluids. Remove dust by using a soft brush or gentle vacuuming. Remove any sprinkler which has been painted (other than factory applied) or damaged in any way.
