Recommended Action
Adopt a resolution accepting a donation of $100,000 from the Friends of the Carlsbad Library to
the City of Carlsbad Library & Cultural Arts Department.
Executive Summary
The Friends of the Carlsbad Library are donating $100,000 in direct support of library programs
for fiscal year 2024-25.
Carlsbad Municipal Code Section 2.08.100 requires the City Council’s approval for the city to
accept donations worth more than $5,000.
Explanation & Analysis
The Friends of the Carlsbad Library is a non-profit, community-based organization, founded in
1957 with the mission to support Carlsbad City Library programs and activities. The Friends
raise funds through the sale of books at Friends bookstores in both the Dove and Cole Libraries.
This donation will provide supplies for children, teens and technology programming,
reimbursement for performers, materials for the ongoing mindfulness series and support of the
Carlsbad Reads Together author talk.
Fiscal Analysis
This $100,000 donation from the Friends of the Carlsbad Library will augment the FY 2024-25
operating budget for the Library & Cultural Arts Department allowing the purchase of library
materials and the continuation of library programs for the community that otherwise might not
be possible.
Next Steps
The donation from the Friends of the Carlsbad Library will be appropriated to the Library &
Cultural Arts Department FY 2024-25 operating budget.

Environmental Evaluation
This action does not require environmental review because it does not constitute a project
within the meaning of the California Environmental Quality Act under California Public
Resources Code Section 21065 in that it has no potential to cause either a direct physical
change or a reasonably foreseeable indirect physical change in the environment.
