Recommended Action
Receive a presentation regarding the County of San Diego’s implementation of the CARE Act
Program.
Executive Summary
Representatives from the County of San Diego will provide the presentation and respond to
Commissioner questions.
Fiscal Analysis
This action has no fiscal impact.
Environmental Evaluation
This action does not require environmental review because it does not constitute a project
within the meaning of the California Environmental Quality Act under California Public
Resources Code Section 21065 in that it has no potential to cause either a direct physical
change in the environment or a reasonably foreseeable indirect physical change in the
environment.

implementation, BHS has received 139
CARE petitions from the SD Court.
11 CARE petitions (8%) originated from
BHS as LPS step downs or diversions.
More than half of the petitioners
submitting to Court have been family
members.

What to Expect After a CARE Agreement
is Established
•The CARE Agreement client will receive services up to 12-months.
•The individual’s progress will be checked regularly at status review hearings every 60 days.
•At the last scheduled status review hearing it will be determined if the client is ready to graduate or if services are still needed under CARE Act.
•CARE Act services can be extended for up to one year.
