(AGS) has reviewed the geotechnical aspects of the retaining wall plans, details, and calculations for the proposed residential development to be located at 7200-7294 Ponto Drive in the City of Carlsbad, California. AGS has reviewed the referenced retaining wall plans and calculations prepared by Mor Engineers for conformance with the geotechnical recommendations presented in the geotechnical reports prepared by AGS (2022a, 2022d, and 2023). Based on our review, it is AGS’s opinion that the referenced retaining wall plans and details are in conformance with the recommendations presented in the referenced geotechnical reports. AGS has no objection to the structural engineer using the combined passive pressure and sliding resistance for the design of these walls. This is made in consideration that these walls can rotate sufficiently to mobilize the full passive resistance without causing distress to the landscaping and parking lot improvements that are located above the walls. Unless superseded herein, the recommendations presented in AGS’s reference reports (2022a, 2022d, and 2023) are still considered valid. Conditions should be evaluated during grading by the geotechnical engineer of record to confirm if the recommendations provided in the referenced geotechnical report remain valid for the exposed conditions.
