CALL TO ORDER: 4 p.m.
ROLL CALL: Sheffler, DeForest, McBride, Waidelich.
Absent: Moran.
ANNOUNCEMENT OF CONCURRENT MEETINGS: None.
INVOCATION: None.

PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE: Trustee McBride led the Pledge of Allegiance.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
Minutes of the regular meeting held May 22, 2024
Motion by Trustee DeForest seconded by Trustee McBride, to approve minutes as presented.
Motion carried, 4/0/1 (Moran -Absent).
PRESENTATIONS:
Proclamation for Trustee Sherman DeForest
Deputy Library Director Katie Nye presented a proclamation honoring Trustee Sherman DeForest
for his two terms (eight years) of service on the board.
PUBLIC COMMENT: None.
CONSENT CALENDAR: None.
PUBLIC HEARING: None.
DEPARTMENTAL REPORTS:
1. LIBRARY REPORTS FOR MAY 2024: Receive the Narrative Reports and Statistical Reports for
May 2024. (Staff contact: Sheila Crosby and Katie Nye, Library & Cultural Arts)
Recommended Action: Receive the reports.
The board received the reports.
Chair Sheffler inquired on how often and beneficial are the transitional kindergarten tours
considering the decrease in library funding. Deputy Library Director Sheila Crosby answered

the tours are done frequently and offered to all the schools in the region . The library does
not track repeat visit information, but libraries traditionally have a good standing with
toddlers and preschoolers and work to continue those relationships throughout the school
years. Trustee Waidelich shared her personal experience with the school tours and
commended the program.
2. SEA COMMITTEE (Staff Engagement and Appreciation): Receive a presentation on the SEA
Committee and the various ways they connect with Library & Cultural Arts Department staff.
(Staff contact: Sheila Crosby and Nancy Ludwig, Library & Cultural Arts Department)
Recommended Action: Receive the report.
The board received the report.
3. ELECT CHAIR AND VICE CHAIR: Accept nominations/volunteers and elect a Chair and Vice
Chair for the Library Board of Trustees for fiscal year 2024-25. (Staff contact: Katie Nye,
Library & Cultural Arts Department)
Recommended Action: Accept nominations/volunteers and elect a Chair and Vice Chair.
Motion by Trustee DeForest, seconded by Trustee Waidelich to elect Trustee Moran as Vice
Chair for the Library Board of Trustees for fiscal year 2024-25.

Motion by Trustee McBride, seconded by Trustee Waidelich to elect Trustee Sheffler as Chair
for the Library Board of Trustees for fiscal year 2024-25.

4. NORTH SAN DIEGO COUNTY GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY REPORT: Receive a report from the
North San Diego County Genealogical Society. (Staff contact: Sheila Crosby, Library & Cultural
Arts)
Recommended Action: Receive the report.
Representative Dunn was not in attendance and the board did not receive a report.
TRUSTEE COMMENTARY AND REQUESTS FOR CONSIDERATION OF MATTERS: This portion of the
agenda is for the Board to make brief announcement, brief reports of their activities and request
for future agenda items.
Trustee DeForest commented on enjoying his service with the library board and was thankful
for his proclamation.
Trustee Waidelich commented on the Summer Reading Adventure program.
All trustees thanked Trustee DeForest for his time on the board and service to the community.
