The following example illustrates the information that is required for all pole, monument, and
freestanding sign permit applications. Prior to approval, all such proposed signs must be reviewed
for potential issues by the Transportation Department, which will not allow signs to be approved
over the counter. Additional time will be required for on-site inspection.

Architectural
Review Committee
The Architectural Review Committee (ARC) of the Carlsbad Research Center (CRC) has
reviewed your application for a sign review submitted on behalf of your tenant, QUID EL, for
your building located at 2285 Rutherford Road on lot 16 of the CRC.
The plans are proposing a single tenant identification wall sign on the North elevation of your
building facing Rutherford Road, identified as sign 'A' on the submitted plans. The sign will
include the "Quidel'' text/logo, and will be placed on an aluminum sign raceway which will be
painted to match the existing wall color. The sign will also be internally illuminated.
Additionally the plans are proposing two non-illuminated directional signs, identified as signs
'B' on the plans. These directional signs are only 36 inches in height and 7.5 square feet in area
each. These two signs will be placed in locations on the site which will help direct delivery
vehicles to the appropriate shipping and receiving bays. Other lots within the CRC have been
allowed similar types of directional signs.
The plans are also proposing three door vinyl graphics, identified as signs 'C' at distinct entries
to the building. Finally, the submitted plans are proposing 8 loading dock sign panels, which
will be painted gray and be placed over each of the existing loading docks, to help direct
delivery vehicles.
The proposed internally illuminated wall sign for a single tenant building is consistent with the
CRC Design Guidelines, and therefore is considered APPROVED. The two directional signs,
three door vinyl graphics and loading dock sign panels are also consistent with the Design
Guidelines in that they provide internal lot directional assistance and therefore are considered
APPROVED.
You may proceed with the construction and installation of your signs once a sign permit is
obtained from the City of Carlsbad. Please forward a copy of your City sign permit to:
