RE: Admin. Var. 92-06
ATTN: Mike Grim:
Yes, Jim and Shirley Swab object to granting this variance. One of the first signs of a
deteriorating neighborhood is the fortress look you get from high walldfences and bars on
windows.
Even though Adams Street pedestrian and motor traffic is increasing significantly it will
probably remain a neglected street for years as its foot traffic is mainly barrio residents,
who would prefer sidewalks for their "borrowed" shopping carts, and safety of their
school age children rather than enforcement of building/wall codes.
With the great lack of intelligence and leadership ability on the current council we are not
very optimistic that anything will be done other than lots of blather about concern for the
residential community and maybe a requirement for some mitigating landscaping.
Doesn't the owner know that all he needs to do is make campaign contributions to the
three incumbents, (Kulchin $250.00, Lewis $10.00, Nygard $5.00) and he'll get his
variance regardless of what is good for Carlsbad and what neighbors and staff
recommend?
We also object to the block wall on the northwest corner of Elm and Highland Drive as it
also is in violation of Carlsbad's Code but doubt anything will be done about it either.
Sincerely,
