This letter is being submitted in response to the Notice of Request for Administrative Variance, regarding
the variance that has been requested by Fieldstone La Costa regarding the required rear yard setback of Lots
57-78 and 135-146 in The Fairways development.
As residents of The Fairways, we feel that pntuq~ this variance would be inappropriate. We chose to live
in this community in part because of the density restrictions imposed on this community by the City of
Carlsbad. While much of the available housing in this area is (in our opinion) high density, we were
attracted to this community because most of the houses were not built right on top of one another,
affording a level of privacy that we desired. Granting a variance to the required rear yard setback would
impinge upon the moderate densities of the commuruty. It would unfkirly grant privileges to the owners of
these homes that are not available in the community. Since our house lies below some of the lots for which
this variance has been requested, our privacy could potmlmlly be compromised.
We therefore think that grantmg this variance is not appropriate. And ifthere are compelhng reasons for
Fieldstone to be granted this variance, then at least an infiial hearing would be appropriate to discuss
what exactly is bemg proposed and why this variance is necessary.
Sincerely,
r\
Homeowners, The Fairways, lot 122.
