EIA Supplemental Information
BLF Interim Information Trailer
Section VB. Biological Resources
The site proposed for the interim Batiquitos Lagoon Information Center is undeveloped
ruderal land in the extreme southwestern corner of the Aviara community This location is
bordered by the existing LCWD Batiquitos Lagoon Sewage Pump Station to the east, the pump
station access road to the south, a desiltation basin to the west (installation complete in 1997),
and open space to the north. The area local to the proposed information center site presently
.ranges in quality from highly disturbed, to ruderal, to disturbed Diegan Coastal Sage Scrub
The area was largely cleared during pump station construction in 1999, and vegetation is
slowly re-establishing. Non-native ruderal species, as well as feocoma venetus. goldenbush
and ^ptus scoparius. deerweed dominate the emerging growth. Open space to the north of
the site supports Diegan Coastal Sage Scrub which will not be disturbed by the proposed
building siting or use The area chosen to locate the information center, access ramps, steps
and path, is the highly disturbed portion of the site. No desirable vegetation will be disturbed
or removed by the proposed structures The Information Center was also sited in
consideration of naturalized plantings (including Eucalyptus sp.X scheduled for installation in
> this area by January 1997 as a condition of CMWD pump station permits. Site drainage flows
from high areas within the northern sagt scrub, across the developed portion of the sit* into a
road-side drainage swale, and into the desiltation basin west of the project site. Runoff will
not flow unchecked into the Batiquitos lagoon.
Note: Review of me site has been made by the Department of Fish and Game regarding
potential impacts to important flora and fauna, as well as the Batiquitos Lagoon ecosystem.
The Department finds the use and location suitable for the proposed activity with no impact
mitigation required.
