SUBJECT: Fire Protection Plan for Village L-1
I met with Mike Smith and Lex Williman to review the proposed Fire Protection Plan for
Village L-1. Mike signed a letter stating the proposed plan is acceptable to the
Carlsbad Fire Department as long as certain conditions of approval are required for
units 3-11 and 14 & 15 as described in the attached letter.
Hopefully this letter helps you in resolving this issue with the Wildlife Agencies. If you

Dear Ms. Hayworth:
I have met with Mike Howes and Lex. Williman to review the proposed Fire Protection Plan
for Mr. Clurman's proposed project in Village L-l of the Calavera Hills Master Plan. This
plan shows three zones between structures and native vegetation. The first zone which will
start at the structures will consist of ground cover, no flammable shrubs or trees and no
flammable structures. As proposed, this plan has been developed in accordance with the
cross sections shown by the City of Carlsbad's Landscape Guidelines Manual for projects
adjacent to native habitat.
This proposed Fire Protection Plan is acceptable to the Carlsbad Fire Department as long as a
condition of approval requires that a deed restriction be placed on units 3-11 and 14 & 15
stating that no trees, shrubs or flammable structures shall be permitted in the rear yards of
these units.
Hopefully, this letter provides the information you need to address this issue with the Wildlife
Agencies.
