HomeMy WebLinkAboutCT 02-14; Bressi Ranch Residential; Tentative Map (CT) (38)Going back in time, Carlsbad began as a coastal "village" with old world, European origins, and a pedestrian friendly character and charm.
Visitors were attracted to Carlsbad's ambience, livable qualities, and healthy climate. Earlier in the past century, Carlsbad was famous for its
extensive fields of flowers
Today, a new community is planned which will recreate this "village" charm, with a distinct character and identity reminiscent of the history
and character of old Carlsbad where everything is accessible and daily needs are within walking distance. The Historic Garden District at Bressi
Ranch will create a community unique to Carlsbad and the region. Neo-traditional planning combined with smart growth principles has
crafted a livable enclave, off the beaten path.
The Street scene will be a Garden Promenade, and a Village Square and Village Green will create public spaces to enhance the presence of and
attention to people. A central focus of commercial, civic and cultural activities will render a community "sense of place" uncommon in today's
master and planned communities. Residential neighborhoods will offer an eclectic blend of architectural styles, tree lined, turf parkways, neigh-
borhood landmarks at each Commons, and elements of surprise and discovery.
Narrowed streets with round-abouts and traffic calming devices will further reinforce the human scale character of the community. Residents
will be encouraged to experience the walkable opportunities throughout community neighborhoods, promoting neighborly friendship.
This booklet presents the vision and design ideas for the Historic Garden District at Bressi Ranch, a special place in Carlsbad's future, and a
return to the past
