HomeMy WebLinkAboutCT 98-14; Thompson/Tabata; Tentative Map (CT) (104)June 29, 2000 Dear Vista Pacifica Homeowner i Here is an update on the planned Standard Pacific housing development just next door to us; on the proposed extension of Alyssum Road into the new development and, the response we have received from the Mayor and the other members of the City Council to our petition and request for a hearing to express our objections to the city's plans. First, a series of meetings were held between the City Council Members, members of the City Planning Department and the developer Standard Pacific. We, of course/were not invited to attend these meetings. On June 27, we were informed by the Planning Department that the Council had voted in favor of the Standard Pacific project. The vote was 4 to 1 with only Mrs. Kulchin voting against. You will recall that the petition of the Vista Pacifica homeowners was addressed and hand delivered to the Mayor's office. Neither the Mayor nor the other 3 members of the Council had the courage or the decency to respond to our petition. Only Mrs. Kulchin sent us a note to indicate that she would look into our requests and objections to the new project. Keep in mind that this entire saga was created when some unknown authority vetoed the recommendations of the City Planning Department official which placed the 24 high density units and the RV parking lot which Standard Pacific plans to put in its new development, on the north side of Poinsettia Lane rather right adjacent to our development. Some official apparently responded to the vicious and bigoted objections from the residents of Mariners Point and reversed the Planning Department's recommendations. The Committee for the Preservation of Olde Vista Pacifica is now planning to: 1. Request a copy of the minutes/notes of the meetings held between the City Council and the developer Standard Pacific, 2. Request a formal response from the Mayor's office identifying the person who reversed the recommendation of the Planning Department plus the reason for the reversal. Obviously our elected officials did not feel that the concerns of the residents of Vista Pacifica even warranted a face to face meeting. We are; of course, very disappointed in their reaction as well as in their final decision. We suggest that now is the time for all homeowners to get in touch with their elected officials.
