AT SPINNAKER HILLS HOA MEETING
REGARDING THOMPSON/TABATA PROJECT
Date and Time: 9/21/00, from 7pm to 8:15 pm
Number in attendance: Approximately 70
Staff present: Mike Grim and Bob Wojcik
Summary notes:
The presentation was an outgrowth of a meeting with the
Mayor, Tim Mutter, Bob Wojcik and myself regarding the
Thompson/Tabata project. At that meeting, Tim asked if staff
could present some basic information about the project and
processing at an HOA meeting. We agreed.
The tone of the meeting was very confrontational. There
were numerous questions during the body of the presentation,
and many of these interruptions were phased as statements
rather than questions. The meeting lacked any substantive
mediation and several times members of the audience had to
quiet their fellow residents to allow the presentation to proceed.
The principal issue with the attendees was the connection
of Rose Drive (and thus Daisy Ave) to the future subdivision and
the resulting increase in traffic. The residents stated that Daisy
is already overburdened with traffic, as evidenced by skid marks
on the roadway and previous letters/complaints to the Police
Department.
The ancillary issues included: the possibility of pesticides
in the soil due to the previous agricultural use; growth and
traffic in the City in general; potential devaluation of property
values; accusations of collusion between the City and
developers; whether Daisy is a sub-standard street (it's not, we
checked); and general questions about City roadway standards.
