Dear Mr. Grim
North County Transit District (NCTD) has reviewed the above referenced project and has the
following comments:
At this time, NCTD does not provide service directly to the proposed development. Our closest
existing bus stop is located on the corner of Poinsettia Lane and Batiquitos Drive,
approximately % of a mile west of the project.
Though we do not currently service the proposed development, it should be noted that the
District is currently in the primary stages of its Strategic Business Plan. The Strategic Business
Plan is a comprehensive transportation study, which will include an evaluation of the current
transit system, make recommendations to improve the overall transit service to North County,
and develop a plan to implement recommended transit improvements. The first draft service
plan is expected to be complete at the end of summer 2000, with the final study completion
scheduled for December 2000.
At the conclusion of the comprehensive transportation study, there is a possibility that bus
service will be implemented further east along Poinsettia Lane. With this in mind, providing
convenient access for pedestrians to Poinsettia Lane from the interior of the development, by
means of sidewalk or pathway, is highly desirable.
NCTD also suggests that Poinsettia Lane be striped so that the outside travel lane is at a
minimum of 20 feet wide, including a bike lane (12' travel lane & 8' bike lane). This lane width
would allow, if service is implemented, buses to stop without impeding the flow of traffic.
