Dear Ms Kennedy,
We are writing to you regarding die MSK Development project on Seaview Way.
When we purchased our house at 3580 Donna Drive, we knew that the land above our house had
been purchased and the plans were to build several houses. We are not against development in
Carlsbad or the addition of homes within the existing neighborhoods of Carlsbad. However, this
development seems to introduce severe environmental impact to the houses around it.
While we all know that an ocean view commands a higher home price, most new homes have been
built on the earth as it lays naturally allowing for the views and also, a contextural fit into the
neighborhoods. Using the natural hillside and stepping the houses on the terraine can obtain both
ocean views for the new homes while preserving die views of existing homes and die natural slope of
die Carlsbad hills. Development should enhance die community, not block views of odiers.
Huge, unnatural and unnecessary retaining walls are not die best solution. By manipulating die earth
to build views for diese new homes, we are at risk of breaking down die already fragfle environment.
Sure die structual engineers and soil experts can figure out a way to make die land fill work but, what
about die larger picture. Our neighborhood is willing to work widi die planning commission and die
developer to make diis project a success. There are other ways to accomplish die development
widiout 400+ trucks of dirt, 30' retaining walls and destruction to die natural grade of Carlsbad.
We are in protest of diis development as it is today and we will see you on August 25* and
September 15di. Thank you for your support of diis matter. We are confident mat die City
Planning Department will revise dieir thinking to a better environmental solution.
