The Parks and Recreation Commission, at its regular meeting on September 18, 1978, unanimously recommended that the Conditional Use Permit Amendment (CUP 118A) for occupancy of the Magee House be appealed. On September 13, 1978, the Planning Commission amended the current Conditional Use Permit by approving the re- quest for occupancy by the Parks and Recreation Department and the Carlsbad Historical Society for storage and office use only. The house shall not be used for assembly type uses or purposes until the conditions of Planning Commission Resolution No. 1241 have been fulfilled. The Historical Society indicates a need for storage and display of antiques of the old Carlsbad era plus
the privilege of showing the house to interested groups of visitors to Carlsbad.
The Parks and Recreation Department desires to conduct indoor recreational type activities and classes in its portion of the house. Due to the current excessive costs to utilize the Carlsbad Unified School District facilities and the near future renovation of the Harding Street Community Center, the Parks and Recreation Department has a dire need for use of the Magee House for the conduct of recreational classes and activities. The Parks and Rec- reation Commission recommends that the facility be made available
for the uses specified.
