In the Planning Department's staff report (September 13, 1978), staff showed their concern for providing on and off street parking and landscaping around the parking lot. In order to provide for off street parking, the Parks and Recreation Department contacted St. Michael's-by-the-Sea Episcopal Church and has received in writing permission to use their parking lot until such time as the Magee House parking lot is completed. The Recreation Division would like to offer social activities to small groups of those living in the center city area and others, and many of these participants would walk to the Magee House. Such acti- vities may include games of chess, dominoes, majong, cribbage, bridge, old fashioned quilting bee, making Christmas decorations and baking holiday treats. With the immediate need to relocate recreational pro- grams from Harding Street complex due to renovation and the high cost of renting school facilities in which to conduct programs, the depart- ment considers the need urgent to use Magee House for certain types of programs The Historical Society will also use Magee House to store and display antiques, which was approved by the Planning Commission, but they too need approval for assembly use to allow small tours to see the an- tiques. The Parks and Recreation Commission unanimously recommends to City Council that CUP 118-A be approved so that Magee House may be utilized for assembly type programs, in addition to use for storage and facility attendant office space.
