J. Houson Director of Sanitation and Flood Control County of San Diego 5555 Overland Avenue San Diego, California 92123 Dear Case : Bill Craven has forwarded to my attention a copy of a letter he has received from the State Solid Waste Manage- ment Board, dated November 6, 1979, which outlines a new competitive recycling grant program being launched by the Board to assist recycling operations in California. The program provides some 2.4 million dollars for the current fiscal year and is aimed at seeking applications from qualified proponents in the 10 counties in California with the highest population densities. Recycling programs with an attainment goal of at least 500 tons per month are especially encouraged. In view of the recent opening of the North County Solid Waste Transfer Station in Carlsbad, which serves a large area, it would seem that the opportunity for a grant application might exist. I wanted you to know that if your department is considering an application in response to the Solid Waste Management Board's request, the City of Carlsbad would be interested in cooperating and parti- cipating with you. ?lease let me know how the City of Carlsbad might be helpful.
