TO : Planning Director
FROM : Building Director
SUBJECT: C. U. P. Girl ' s Club
DATE: May 24th, 1978
The subject property and structure was checked by the Building
Department for the occupancy of the structure by the Carlsbad Girl's Club.
The occupancy of this structure in the 1976 U.B.C. would be A-3. In the previous U.B.C., the occupancy would have been a B-3 oc- cupancy. This is brought to your attention now as this report
will refer to these occupancies. Also, whether or not the application for the C.U.P. will apply or the granting of the
C.U.P. is the compliance date.
Under the B-3 occupancy (any building or portion of a building having an assembly room with an occupant load of 300 without a stage, including such buildings used for educational purposes and not classed as a Group C or Group F, Division 2 occupancy.) This would allow the use and occupancy of the structure with minor changes and alterations. However, the handicap require- ments would apply under the B-3 occupancy.
Under the A-2 occupancy, the requirement for panic hardware and
exit doors swinging out would not be applicable if occupancy was
limited to less than fifty (50.) There is no requirement for one-
hour fire rating of this size building on this occupancy. Over
4500 square feet would require one-hour rating on the building.
The building will have to meet the handicap requirements, that is,
handrails, ramps, restroom, etc.
There would be some correction of the electrical system such as
grounding and the removal or relocating of some electrical con-
ductors (wiring.)
These would have to be completed prior to the issuance of an
Occupancy permit by this Department if the Conditional Use permit
