RE: CUP 1 94( B)x4 - Carlsbad Aquafarms
Dear Julie,
The Agua Hedionda Lagoon Foundation supports the extension of the Conditional Use
Permit for the Carlsbad Aquafarms. One of the Agua Hedionda Lagoon Foundation’s
many missions is to promote balanced recreational and commercial uses consistent
with assured future lagoon vitality. Thus the Foundation strongly supports the continued
operation of the Carlsbad Aquafarms as well as its possible expansion. The strong tidal
flow and the currents created by the water intake of the Encina Power Station create a
unique environment for aquaculture operations in the outer lagoon, which is not
replicated in any other lagoon in San Diego County.
As an advocate for the lagoon, the Foundation believes the Carlsbad Aquafarm is a
great use of the lagoon and that the Aquafarm continues to be an important part of our community. The Aquafarm also provides a valuable resource for education and
aquaculture technology. We hope that the Commission will support this extension and
its continued role in the Carlsbad community.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions regarding our support for the
extension of the Carlsbad Aquafarms CUP.
