Mr. Frank Kirk Chamber of Commerce, Carlsbad, California . CARLSBAD BY THE SEA June 12th, 1968 L Dear Mr. Kirk: I wish to voice an opinion regarding the new site for the Carlsbad ?ost office. The distance from the retirement residiCance to the propsed site would mean that the folks of our age would not be able to make the trip to the Post office which now is a pleasant and comfortable walk for most of us. Having the bullding so far removed would mean that the daily trip would be curtailed. Very few of our folks here have cars, and the sf6e change would mean many disadvantages lo us here. It is my sincere hope that if the Post office has to be changed, could it be built on a site closer to the Retirement Home? Thank you for any assistance you can offer. y e P 1 I . RED H. KNOCHE CARLSBAD BY THE SEA CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA 9200 nI P 2855 Carlsbad Boulevard, Carlsbad, Calif. June 13, 1968. Mr. Prank Kirk, President, Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce , Carlsbad, California. Dear Sir: We, the undersigned resident8 of CaPlsbad by-the-Sea, a Lutheran Horn for retired, wish to voice our objections to moving the Carlsbad Poat-Office to a site away from downtown Carlsbad. At present, the majority of ~ur members are able to walk to the Post-Office at its present location, to buy stamps, money orders or mail parcels. Hot many of the 110 members here have cars, and the proposed location at Chestnut and Harding would make it out of the question to walk to the Post-Office. In fact, it would work 8 great hardship on us. Anything the Chamber of Commerce ean do to prevent removal of postal facilities from the downtown shopping area will be greatly appreciated. . . .'. e-* . . 2837 Carlsbad Blvd. Room 257 Carlsbad. California 92008 June 13, 1968 Mr. Frank Kirk, President, Chamber pf Commerce Carlsbad, Calif . 92008 Dear Sir:: I have just learned that the U. S. Government hat Office Deparuent now has a tentative aite in mind for the erect- ion of the Carlsbad Post Of'fice. We now enjoy the present facilitier right in the downtown area. Harding is far removed from Oarlsbad By the Sea and the downtown area, and one would either have to drive or walk some eleven blocks to use the Post Office faciities. The new location being considered at Chestnut and I will appreciaw it if you will use your influence to see that the Post Wfice will be located in the downtoen area for all concerned. Thanking you for your co-operation in this matter, Very truly yours, PHONE 729-2377 AREA CODE 714 2855 CARLSBAD BLVD. CARLSBAD. CALIFORNIA 9200s June 14th, 1968 Mr. Frank Kirk President, Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce Carlsbad, California 92008 Dear Mr. Kirk The great majority of our 112 residents at Carlsbad by the Sea find it necessary to use the Post Office facility which is now located conveniently within walking distance from the Retirement Home. To move the location of this Post Office branch to a remote area twelve blocks away from this residence would create an undue hardship for our people - few of whom drive automobiles and must walk to the close-by shopping area for personal needs.
