The present Sign Ordinance makes special allowances for Theater Plarquees in addition to the permitted sign area for the theater itself. Specifically, the wording is as follows: Section 2606: G. In addition to all signs otherwise herein allowed, a .- 'lot actually used as a theater may maintain a marquee taking place on the prernjses, which said marquee sign shall have a maximum area of 160 square feet and a height no higher than the height of the building upon which it is located or thirty-five (35) feet, which- ever is less. I sign for the purpose of announcing current activity I have made the determination that, because the Cinema Plaza Theater leases the land for its four theaters from the Plaza Camino Real, the intent of the above section is to allow each theater a maximum marquee sign area of 160 sq. ft. In other words, if four separate theaters were proposed on four separate lots, each would be permitted a Marquee with a maximum area of 160 square feet. i Also, SectiDn 2602 of the same ordinance states the following defini- tion: G. MARQUEE shall mean a permanent roofed structure attached and supported by a building and projecting over public or private sidewalks or right-of-way. I have also determined that, bscause the sign could b? designed to fit the definitior, of a marquee, but, in the interest of good design, vias desi5ned flush against the building, the proposed signs still nzet the intent of the Sign Ordinance in that they z.re for th2 ''p~r- posz of announcing current activity taking place OR the premises". , .(_ \ ..
